You're literally beating the ever loving spirit out of monsters the size of average NBA players inside a boss fight simulator with comically large utensils. What's not to love?

I don't normally write reviews on games often, and that's mainly due to me liking to keep my opinions to myself, but y'all. Let me tell you a little something.

Metroidvanias are in a weird spot for me. I will either play the game for hours on end due to how addicted I am to it (Hollow Knight is a very good example of this), or I will not be interested in it at all. The Ori franchise has always been on my radar due to my general liking of fantastical scenery and mystical things, but never really put the time nor money aside to give it a proper shot. I've heard from close friends how good the game was, but it was only just recently I finally pulled the trigger on the series (since it has a bundle deal to get both The Blind Forest and Will of the Wisps for a really good price).

Y,all. I'VE BEEN MISSING OUT THIS WHOLE TIME.

If a game has me fantasizing the experience and setting of the game AFTER I have finished playing it (whether it be to take a break or after completing the story), that says something, and Moon Studios absolutely nailed it with this game. A fluid movement system for Ori (the character you play as), a cohesive combat system that allows you to pair some abilities together at the same time, and a map that consistently challenges you to use your wits and be alert to your surroundings, while also being intertwined in a way that's satisfying.

To be honest with you, I would love to see more attention to detail on the lore aspect of this universe, such as where did Kuro come from, or how the Spirit tree was formed (honestly, if this was already stated within the game, then I'm just being a dense mfer per usual).

And the music? ABSOLUTELY BLISSFUL. I don't think I've had any other game hit me with any sort of emotions unlike this. With suspenseful transitions and pure ambience for each location, the music seriously hit every single note right (get it...?), and the people behind the sound design and coordinating the OSTs know exactly what they're doing (and it's honestly a big inspiration for me to understand composition as a whole).

To end this, how can I rate this game?

9.5/10

Everything this game has to offer is nearly perfect and works amazingly with each other, and I think any player, new or experienced in Metroidvanias, can have an awesome time with this game. However, if more can be done to expand the lore/universe, this will easily be a 10/10 (albeit this game is already one of my personal favorites as of recent years).
