A Survivors-like game without meta progression.

You unlock more items, then rely on RNG to get the right ones (i.e. whatever the current meta is). Your base stats never improve, so runs live or die entirely on item luck.

The core gameplay is a fun twist on the genre, but the lack of progression between runs makes it not for me.

"Brushes with Death" is a solid DLC that adds a new questline along with the ability to customize shield designs.

The story is split between the Trosky and Kuttenberg regions. When played after completing the main game, the Trosky portion can feel somewhat underwhelming for an experienced player; however, when played alongside the main quest, it integrates much more naturally and feels like a meaningful addition. The DLC also expands regional lore with pagan themes and folklore. The Kuttenberg section is where the narrative truly unfolds and lives up to the DLC’s title, and I will avoid spoilers here.

The shield painting feature offers a fair amount of customization. Personally, I rarely use shields in my playthroughs, so I would have preferred to see similar customization options added to regular clothing (at least color-wise). For example you can paint your shield blue or peach, but it is difficult to match your outfit accordingly.

I played this DLC after finishing the main game, took my time with it, and enjoyed the story. It is not groundbreaking, but it is a well-made and enjoyable DLC overall, especially when experienced from the start as part of the Royal Edition.

The DLC adds very little to the story, and by the time I completed the main pursuit I found myself thinking, “That’s it?” However, it does introduce a range of new upgrades and craftable items that can be genuinely useful throughout an entire playthrough.

I can recommend it if you are starting a fresh game, as the new systems integrate well with early progression. Playing it after finishing the base game, though, feels underwhelming.

WARNING: I only recommend this DLC as part of the Digital Deluxe Edition, where the overall pricing feels reasonable. At full standalone price, it is significantly overpriced.

The DLC itself functions more like a microtransaction, providing a modest early- to mid-game boost through the Arterial Engine, while the Sign of Ruin remains useful throughout the entire playthrough.

I played this DLC after completing the base game, and it took me fewer than two hours to finish it along with all achievements.

It adds very little to the core experience. The narrative feels underdeveloped and ultimately goes nowhere, leaving the overall expansion feeling superficial.

I can only recommend it to players who absolutely loved the base game or are considering a full playthrough, and even then only when it is discounted.

I can definitely recommend the base game, but the DLC for their prices add little to nothing to the base game.

The game is incredibly short and shallow and you are basically "investigating" one single case. It starts out pretty interesting and exciting but then you realize thet all the "tools" you have you only just use once, and you yourself is also a tool. The "investigation" is 40% audio dialogue, 40% text dialogue and 20% illusion of choice since there aren't any. This is not a detective game, there are some very mild puzzles, where you just do what you are told to do, it's impossible not to solve them.

The ending is extremely unsatisfying and disappointing, basically there is none.

This feels more like a tech demo that a full game, and it's walls of text and "immersion" appeal after finishing the game simply look like they are supposed to drag you past 2h refund time.

I was waiting for this game since I finished the first game in 2020 and it absolutely delivered.

An absolute masterpiece of a game.

Doing the same deliberately inconvenient platforming got old very fast.
