MtG Arena overcomes some of the difficulties that Magic might present to people. While playing paper MtG is fun, it is also expensive, time consuming, and has a steep learning curve. Arena allows you to collect playable cards for free or as cheap as you want. You can pick it up whenever and play against other MtG players with hardly any wait time. The tutorial, color challenge, and starter deck challenge provide a great way to learn how to play.

With that being said, MtG is run by a greedy corporation that tries its hardest to get your money. You can absolutely play for free, but Magic has always been a bit of a pay-to-win/have-fun game. Arena helps keep it a little cheaper (for the most part). The software isn't perfect, but it helped me get into the game and keep playing. I still like playing with physical cards, but as a busy adult, Arena is a big help.
