Style over substance rules the day with this Hadeslike. The gameplay feels functional but simplistic. To quote the ineffable Huey Lewis in Back to the Future, it's just too dang loud.

A fun 2D platformer to be sure. The music and the momentum have a 90s vibe that reminds me of Sonic Mania and the gameplay is light and fluffy.

The potential is here, and I like the mix of genres, but the immense grind in the early game puts me off. I don't want to do half hour runs with no hope of actually coming out on top just to get currency to unlock upgrades that feel like vital parts of the experience. Mobile game progression in a PC game package, and that's a shame.

Not for me. Tetris as a rogue game has huge potential, but this attempt gets bogged down in its themeing. Rather than changing up your run, all the upgrades just make the numbers go up, which leads to tedious replaying of content you've already conquered with little variety. Not a bad game if you like the tactics on offer, just a dry one.

Extremely fun roguelike that understands how to vary runs and takes full advantage of its inspiration to deliver interesting, over the top gameplay. Will be playing a lot more of this one.

Unhappy coming back after the beta. The combat feels slow as molasses now and it's injected with five more layers of money-grubbing garbage.

A blatant Skinner box where you watch the numbers go up and have little to no input in what happens. Stages end when the designers decide that you've had enough so that the loop can continue. It seems designed to offer Twitch streamers something they can show on screen that's engaging while they beg for subscribers and bits.

Just go play Crimsonland. Your time is more valuable than this.

From the moment that Boomerang X's demo hit Steam, it was possible that DANG! and Devlover had a hit brewing, and the full experience delivers on that promise. No occasional difficulty spikes can get in the way of this exciting mixture of retro FPS movement and stylish action, and Boomerang X will likely remain a contender for one of 2021's best indie titles throughout the rest of the calendar year.

Even players who don't consider themselves Star Wars fans will find a lot to like in this sci-fi war story. The squad gameplay was ahead of its time and still excels today alongside the excellent AI. The most obvious element that's aged about this game is its graphics, and that annoyance fades quickly once the lasers start flying. Republic Commando was one of the best Star Wars games of its time when it arrived in 2005, and despite over 16 years passing since then, it remains a captivating and engaging title in 2021.

Rocket Arena is the Super Smash Bros. of shooters, a rollicking close-range explosion party that provides hours of fun. It's certainly not what some may expect from a shooter fully devoted to rockets, but that unique energy is what makes it stand out in every match. Anyone who can get past the sterile world design will find a competitive deathmatch suite that appeals to would-be rocketeers of all ages.
