It seems to me like people are actively going out of their way to create negative assumptions about this game. Try and ignore it, give the game some time and you'll find the depth is quite abundant. It isn't your run of the mill arena battler/shooter that gives you a class/character/hero to play and says "have fun", it gives you said character, lets your modify your abilites on the fly, lets you create custom loadouts to enhance your play style, encourages you to create your own challenges all the while rewarding you with choices of customization and heroes.

There's an issue with being locked out of content such as instant access to heroes and every skin in the game, however, if you were given everything out of the gates wouldn't you pick the most popular choice and stick with it? Put some time into each loadout, helix tree and build your locker of skins and you'll find yourself choosing a variety every time you play. The lore challenges add extra difficulty and fun to your games with your favourite character or try each at random, they all offer funny and fleshed out background to the well seasoned world (or star) created in battleborn.

The single player portion of the game is well paced if a little hectic (you may find yourself zoning out of the audio dialogue) and depending on your sense of humor, can be quite entertaining from a narrative standpoint. If you'd rather focus on the gameplay, you can progress in both single player and multi player in any form you choose. Trying out a new hero in single player can give you the confidence you need to take it into a match of incursion or meltdown and do well, rather than forcing you to risk the wrath of potential bad apples in multiplayer.

If you enjoy a solid FPS, customization elements and in your face action Battleborn might be a good investment. With some refinement along the way, Battleborn could be amazing.
