Absolute masterpiece, buy this game

It's hard to recommend this gameto players coming from souls games, not because of its different playstyle, but because of how much you need to learn in order to enjoy the game.

This game is hard as steel if you don't make use of the tools the game gives you. I played the majority of the game, except the last two missions of the Bloodshed End's DLC with an Odachi and the Guardian Spirit Talisman and some sort of infusion and, holy music sheets, it was incredibly difficult and at times frustrating to get through. Mastering the combat system is not enough for a first playthrough. There's a lot of magic that makes the game more fair, weakness talismans, protection talismans, talismans to get your living weapon to charge faster, reforging weapon stats, I feel like these are quality of life mechanics which you need to implement if you want to have fun. Don't use the Sloth talisman unless you don't have anything else to use, though, it turns a lot of bosses obsolete from what I've seen online.

I consider this game to be a masterpiece and revolutionary for the genre, even if I didn't play it as the developers intended, the combat is just too good to sleep on.

These things alone overshadow the atrocious level design, and I mean extremely atrocious, the lack of enemy variety, and the lackluster story. It got pretty boring to run through every mission looking for Kodama whilst dealing with tough Yokai on the way, sometimes placed as if the developers just hate the players. Most of the time you end up rushing through the level and skipping mobs, it's a tad of a gimmicky difficulty, also having random holes in the ground at times to place the stick further upp your bum.

The diablo loot system is pretty neat, you can gear up from killing Revenants, which are like the blood spots on the ground in souls games, but they spawn a ghost of the player if you touch them. They usually host the best items for your level and are easy to fight, the rest of the loot you can just sell for materials, gold, or amrita.

I'd rate it an 8/10, the game is incredibly difficult, but also incredibly satisfying to get past those difficult moments.

Some thoughts I remember having while playing are:

'I know some German dudes who had better designed camps than these levels'

'Video games are educational, Nioh taught me to hate women' (whilst fighting Maria)

So yeah, this game gets the worst out of you, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ peak

Only downside to this game is that I can't shave my pubes
