Early Access Review
As much as I want to, I can't recommend the game in its current state. The fact that basic menu navigation doesn't work out of the box with a steering wheel as common as the G920 is baffling. It is safe to assume that Logitech wheels in general are the most commonly used, simply by way of their pricing, and yet it's already been a week since release with no fix for such a simple yet impactful issue, and no real communication from the developers apart from something akin to a "we're looking into it".

There are other issues too, most of which are reasonable for an early access game and I'd expect them to be fixed relatively quickly as the game develops, were it not for the lack of confidence brought about by the previously stated issue. These are some of them:

Force feedback feels pretty bad on budget wheels such as mine, to the point that it feels like they didn't even bother to test their game on anything other than high-end setups. You get barely any surface detail, very little sense of weight transfer and you have to make a choice between no self aligning torque at all or having some self aligning torque but then the wheel oscillates when driving straight. Also, it often feels like the ffb is delayed, though I'm not entirely sure if that's really the case or if it just feels like that since there's so little of it.

Optimization is pretty bad. Load times seem a bit better since the last update, but it's still crazy to have to wait for like 10-20 seconds just to be able to select your car because the game has to load its model first. Having no choice but to use frame generation to achieve playable framerates is also kind of annoying, even more so when the framerate still drops anyway if you're going too fast. The graphical enhancements that this game has in comparison to something like Dirt Rally 2.0 are the kinds of things you only really notice when you're not actually playing the game. Yes, of course this game is visually more realistic and whatever, but at what cost? And at what benefit, honestly? Dirt Rally 2.0 looks better, even if its visuals are a little stylized. On top of that, rally sim enthusiasts are content with playing RBR, a game which looks absolutely horrendous. So really, nobody asked for this.

Default car setups have terrible brakes for some reason. On some cars you can actually put on bigger discs and calipers, and it helps. Most of the time you can't even get the wheels to lock up when going fast and slamming the brakes, though.

Honestly, the game could be much better if the devs prioritized fixing bugs and usability issues instead of removing shared memories and spaces just because they can't deal with the consequences of the game's own mechanics. Still worth at least a single playthrough just for the aesthetic experience, much like Journey. Whether you stay for the cozy and chill vibes after that is up to you.
