A game with a great mechanic where you can decide to spare “enemies” instead of fighting them. I was really looking forward to this, but ironically you must follow this mercy mechanic unbelievably rigidly to achieve the “good” ending, even if you misunderstand a single encounter and choose to fight because the game really makes it seem like you have to. Other than this mechanic, there’s just not enough meat on the bone here. If there were a Mystery Science Theater for video games, Undertale would be the subject of an episode. 2.5/5

A moderately unforgiving 2D homage to old school Zelda games. More depth and balance to alternate weapons would’ve gone a long way, and the game would’ve also benefitted from a shorter total play time, and either a general tightening of levels or more effort, creativity, charm, and variety put into puzzles and enemies. The game’s biggest sin is the tediousness of its final boss: rather than being the coda for the player mastering the game, it’s a punishing and boring slog that will make you hate the game for all the wrong reasons. 3/5

I played this game like a stealth game, and as a stealth game, it's good. I ended up using one of the powers a ton, another about half as often, and the rest almost never. I choked and tranq'd almost all enemies.

I appreciate that there are different ways to play this game, but for me, I took it as an exercise in discipline. It was enjoyable, and about the right length. I may play the sequel some day.
