I played this game via Steam Family Sharing. You can't post reviews unless your account actually owns the game. I bought the game specifically to leave this review, but also support the developers.

This is the first point and click game that I've played more than 3 hours of, let alone finished. It took me ~8 hours, which is great because this isn't my favorite genre by any means and I didn't want it to overstay its welcome. I think its the exact perfect length. It's extremely well made, in pretty much every aspect. The writing is phenomenal. I honestly think, reworked a little, that this script would make for an excellent 3-4 episode miniseries. There were points when I was really disliking where the story was heading... and then they turned it around into something I loved. That misdirection made it better, and I really appreciate that risk. The scene in the casket will likely be a moment that will continue to stand out to me across all games.

The devs somehow perfectly captured the incredibly specific aesthetic of “A tier GBA game that you don’t remember asking for or receiving and that no one has ever heard of”.

Kind of frustrating, with some edgy tone that doesn't quite fit or land, but very polished nonetheless.

Early Access Review
Right now Gloomwood is trying to do a lot, and most of it is very surface level. The world design is quite good, with a decent amount of routes from place to place. But there isn't enough emphasis on catering to specific playstyles. I know more content is being added, but I hope to see the existing content and design fleshed out.

Beat the game and 100%'d it (minus one achievement) in a single sitting. Best 6 hours for 10 bucks ever.

Movement is like Spider-Man on PS4, except 2D -- it feels just as good to play. Speed running this game is going to be so dope. The story is adorable, the characters are memorable. The only downsides are that I wish there was a bit more variety in the music, and the quests are pretty much all fetch quests/collect-a-thon style objectives (not a big deal for a game like this). The music that is present is cute and unobtrusive, but can be a little tiring by the time you're finishing the game.
