As close to perfect as a game can get. Does for third-person action shooters what Half Life did for FPS games--set a standard that would be replicated and subtly improved upon for decades to come.

What hasn't been improved upon (as far as I've played at least) is the unmatched grimdark neo-noir psychological horror atmosphere and story. It's uncompromisingly intense, unrelenting in its depressive descent into the seemingly unending dark night of a broken man's soul.
