Recommend, but only if you're a big fan of Suda 51 and grasshopper.

If you haven't played many Grasshopper games before or played some previous ones and it didn't connect, hard pass on this game.

For Fans of Suda 51, This game is a giant love letter to Suda 51 games. Grabs a bunch of elements from older games and does them better than ever before. It's like when an artist takes an old sketch and redos it with their current skill. From that light it just feels good and is generally enjoyable. You can really nerd out. However, that cool factor becomes it's own biggest heel. It's rehashing a lot of things from the past that even if it's done better, doesn't make for great game design. It's interesting and cool, but the further I get into the game the more it loses steam.

It feels more like NMH 1 than a lot of things, but the stories and bosses in that game were engaging! The story and bosses in this one are... okay? It's objectively better gameplay wise than most NMH titles, but I didn't play those games because the gameplay was fantastic, it was the style, story, and boss fights. This one has style, but doesn't quite hit for me. Still, that's subjective and I think if you like Suda 51 and Grasshopper, it's well worth playing.

What starts out as a great experience really starts to fall off towards the end. Luckily this game isn't that long. By the end of the game/DLCs, I was happy to have played it, and happy that I was finished with it. If you are interested in this game, I would recommend picking it up, but not at full price. I would also recommend not buying the DLCs unless you have played towards the end of the main game and are sure you want more.

Honestly I hope they make a second game, or the devs take what they learned from this game and make another similar game, but better. Maybe then that game could really be great, because this game is just okay. Solid 6.5/10, but I had fun.
