As someone who wanted to get into OSRS, but found the combat to take too long to become interesting, I got hooked on Project Gorgon pretty quickly. There's a decent list of things I enjoy here. The community aspect and the SWG style buffs you get from watching performances in town. The slow grind and build up of favor with NPCs through quests gifts resulting in unlocks that are derived from investing time in those NPCs. A gear system that has made leveling interesting because all stats are randomly generated and so the combat rotations I decide to use get heavily influenced by the skills available on my armor.

I think I just wanted a nice PvE MMO that I could play and grind and see myself slowly progressing and getting stronger without feeling like I was in a huge competition. It feels like everyone in this community is trying to help each other, which is great for a niche MMO. There's one player that started around the same time as me and seeing them ask questions in help consistently and seeing so many people answer them is pretty heartwarming.

If you've been looking for an old school grindy MMO and don't care as much about graphics as you do about game systems, then you should give this a try. I just gave the demo a shot because I was on the fence and then played my first night for 6 hours and decided to buy it then. Maybe you'll also feel the same? You get to keep demo character progress into the real game so it's a solid transition. (Although the server I'm playing on, Dreva, doesn't allow demo characters at the moment because of population so I guess that point is moot for friends I want to play with)

Lots of people complaining in the reviews and with valid complaints. There's definitely a lot of missed promises and Intrepid has made plenty of mistakes as a new development studio (that they are beginning to admit and confess to during their developer streams).

I've been having a lot of fun with the game as it is now, though. As someone who's played open world pvp sandboxes like Eve and Albion, I think the core gameplay loop of gathering, combat, and interacting socially with your node is solid here. There's still definitely more features to flesh out and the game is definitely an alpha, but the bones here are fun and I'm having fun with it. Even the negative reviews note that the bones are solid and I think this game deserves to at least have another positive review to counteract some of that.

Maybe I won't enjoy the game forever. Maybe I'll take a break sometime before the final launch because of the upcoming wipes. But I think any MMO that gets me to enjoy playing it for over 100 hours despite knowing it'll wipe deserves a positive review.

It's wild how so many details exist that allow you to piece together the story of the Obra Dinn. What a great deduction game.

Nothing to test your bond quite like a paddling adventure. Pretty fun game.

Rain World is a simulation. It masks itself as a platformer or an exploration game, but it is fundamentally an ecosystem simulator.

Get food, survive. Maybe once you're good enough at doing that, you can dedicate your time to other things like learning how lizards behave, learning how to swim, learning what that weird eye that is following you keeps pointing you towards, learning about the world and the creatures in it and how they interact with you (spoiler alert: many want to eat you).

It's a unique experience that I'd recommend to anyone that loves emergent simulations and is capable of navigating this platforming-esque movement system enough to not die every cycle.

Turn based colony builder with enough variety between runs to not get stale, pacing and difficulty settings galore such that each run doesn't really overstay its welcome, and a solid worker placement and resource management board game at the center of it all. It's pretty fun.

Arcen does a good job with yet another unconventional game. If you've ever wanted to live the "becoming the first AI" fantasy, and you don't mind learning game systems oriented around strategy and resource management, then this should be right up your alley.

A really good movement shooter. Combines feelings of flow with feelings of intensity.

It's an interesting game. Definitely enhanced or detracted from based on the group you're playing with and how much they enjoy role playing.
