This game was a complete waste of money and time.
  • It has a ridiculous amount of bugs (I honestly can't imagine how broken it was at launch if it's still like this).
  • The performance is terrible.
  • There are no flying vehicles outside of cutscenes. Not even a helicopter when you get 5 police stars — but hey, at least you get cute robot-looking cops instead.
  • I played the game like a chad: hard difficulty, no guides, pure force and violence. And in the end? Nope. The game doesn't let you make a decision like "just go to Arasaka alone and kill everyone." Turns out that ending actually exists, but it's a "secret" ending that requires picking very specific dialogue options in a mission I played ages ago. And it doesn't even make sense for it to depend on that conversation when I was already playing that way the entire time. So yeah, I decided not to finish this game.

Didn't know about the "extraction shooters" genre until this game got published and it casually called my attention when it appeared on the SteamDB month releases calendar. I'm enjoying a FPS game for the first time in years :)

I LOVED this game! And I currently have around 250+ HOURS played. So why am I leaving a "negative" review?

Let me make a fair examination of pros/cons to give proper feedback:

Pros:
  • Amazing story, with a lot of wisdom and a touching ending.
  • One of the best turn-based combats I've ever played, with fair mechanics, a pretty cool style, and well-thought transitions. Even if you normally don't like turn-based combat, you may actually like this one.
  • Impressive soundtracks.
  • Well-written characters of all kinds. You will surely connect with many.
  • Impactful UI/UX, with a very creative style and animations on every single menu. In combat, the UI even fits the 3D world.
  • Every palace feels creative and unique. Starting a new palace is always very exciting.
  • Kawakami, take care of me, I love you.
  • Bikini skins.
  • Tycoon.

Cons:
  • Abuse of (extremely annoying) real-life elements like time management, prioritization, studying, deadlines, societal concerns, worrying about popularity and politics, decision paralysis, etc.
  • The game could be shorter, but has a lot of irrelevant "filler" content. Making a game with many real-life pains longer just made it worse for me.
  • You can't skip the in-game real world to the next story-relevant date. You have to go through every day (like in real life). Every in-game day becomes repetitive.
  • Unnecessary complexity in social mechanics and fusion alarms. Not healthy for perfectionist people or if you experience a lot of FOMO.
  • Many options will just cause the story to continue without a chance of loading a previous save or exiting the game. If you accidentally choose something that puts you in a hell of text to read, it's easier and faster to close the whole game and wait for it to start again than waiting for the text skip to finish and potentially pass through days.
  • The game has a lot of text, but not everything has voices, so you will have to read a lot (if you care about every detail in the game's world, of course).
  • Not many reasons to see your confidants after rank 10.
  • The story feels too much like "modern adolescence" to me. Too much talk about adults being bad and rebellion by force.
  • Despite how slow the in-game real world feels, palaces can be finished quickly once you understand them. This felt unbalanced, as I spent a lot of time just waiting for the next palace to start.
  • Receiving text messages every 1 second is annoying.
  • Morgana is annoying.

For me, these cons are really heavy cons. Every day of my life I have plenty of those real-life elements, so the game didn't help me at all to disconnect and chill. Imagine finishing your work, picking this game to relax, but then you continue doing the same you did the whole day. Not cool. Only people without responsibilities can find fun in something like that. The game could be the perfect game of its kind if they didn't abuse these elements to make the game longer. It wastes a lot of time and energy of the player on stuff that has an "artificial" and unjustified complexity and length.

Despite everything I'm saying, I would still recommend playing this game if you have plenty of free time. This is a pretty unique game, with a lot of quality content in an artistic sense. If you are the kind of person that just plays for the plot or the art, then give it a shot. Just keep your play style simple. For example, just focus on confidants and palaces. Don't worry about listening to every NPC to know about that rare item that you may never use anyway.

Okay, this family was… maybe… not very intelligent? Raising kids in a house where you can't properly watch them, putting a swing at the edge of a cliff, forgetting your baby in the bath, letting your family work in a dangerous place while hallucinating, making your innocent daughter shoot a deer only for it to kill you instead (deserved), etc, etc, etc. Man, I can't empathize with any of it. This is just the story of a mad family doing nonsense and creating their own drama.

The graphics and art style were good tho.
