A pure delight. The game evolves and changes as you play, in ways that I found completely charming. CW: There are some parts that can be a little frightening or unsettling, so just be aware that... hold on. Someone at the door, leaving this here so I remember to finish it

Think of it as a prequel to Human Resource Machine. Think of it as a pleasurable way to burn all sorts of things, including three smile-filled hours of your life. Think of it as a clever meditation on freemium games, capitalism and consumerism. Think of it as a story about hope. Think of it as you please. I think of it as worth the price of admission, and then some.

As a modest tactical RPG, it's pretty good! As a vehicle for delivering turn-of-the-century cyberpunk short stories to you, dressed in a tactical RPG's clothes - it is par excellence.

A lot of the game lives in the text; there isn't the means or budget for cutscenes and detailed closeup models and the like, so a lot of events have to be described completely in long, chunky texty conversation windows. If you hate reading, or if you don't have a soft spot for the slightly nerdy, pulpy, "shamanic streetgangs vs. cybernetic corporations" feel of the Shadowrun universe, then your enjoyment will be limited to a certain degree. But if you never wanted to hack the planet, what the hell kind of gamer are you, anyway?

I would absolutely recommend picking up Dragonfall along with the base game - the campaign is much more substantial and enjoyable - but the base game does have everything you need to start creating your own campaigns, and that is awesome.

A creepy, elegantly simple little experience. I love the way the mechanics of the game unfold for the player through the act of play and observation, without the need for even a single "magic arrow" tutorial.

Anyone who fails to recommend this game is a traitor and a nihilist, a servant of the evil that must not be named. One Way Heroics is a bloom of rare purity, and you should take it with you.

The art is superb and evocative - like a fantasy film you might have dreamed in childhoood. The writing is lovely, full of Nordic deadpan and the gallows humor of struggling heroes on what may very well be a death march at the end of the world. The tactical gameplay is solid, and while I can see there are comments that hack on it for being repetitive in the campaign, I don't feel that way about it yet - also, I feel it's a solid foundation from which to explore the system's potential in multiplayer or for a sequel.

I have only one issue with it, and that is the deceptive title. I came here fully expecting Candy, and or some form of crushing, based on the name obviously. This tale of northerners and Giants trudging through the ice and eternal sunset towards a bloody end in battle, as in legends of old, is woefully misrepresented by the use of the word "Saga," so buyer beware.

Please to enjoy the heartwarming adventure of a little girl in a sundress who turns old perverts into tree-hugging hippies by punching everyone in the face forever.

(Brawler controls are surprisingly sticky and allow for creativity! Feels good, man.)

I was going to write "Less a game, more a story that you can play," but upon reflection maybe that doesn't make it any 'less a game' at all. We could talk about what it's not, but I'd rather say what it is - short, spooky, and terribly sweet.

Do yourself a favor - find a couple of hours to spare when it's quiet where you are, or you have a good pair of headphones. Grab a hot drink and a comfy chair. Shut off your phone, your tablet, your whatever-other-distractions, and settle in to visit the spectres that dwell in this place. They're not what you'd expect, but they are worth your time.

What else is there to say about Torchlight? Dungeon crawling at its finest. The best Diablo since Dialblo. Worth your dollar, so go ahead and get it, and I'll see you for the sequel.
