Though Overwatch 1 was one of the greatest games—even earning IGN’s title of Best PC Game of 2016—the second installment in the series, I mean, ultimately turned out to be a failure. It’s an FPS game lacking competitive integrity: a hero-pick centered game that forces you to pay for new heroes alongside the battle pass, which is utter nonsense. And don’t even get me started on the matchmaking system—it’s a complete joke. You’ll often find yourself teamed up with players who have no idea what they’re doing, while the opposing team is stacked with tryhards, making every match feel like a hopeless slaughter.
The balance adjustments are another disaster. Blizzard seems to have no clue how to tweak heroes properly. One patch will make a hero completely overpowered, ruining the meta for weeks, and the next patch will nerf them into uselessness, leaving players with no viable options. It’s like they’re just guessing instead of putting in the effort to actually analyze the game data.
To summarize, Blizzard has kept up the pretense of being creative for years. Truth be told, the company isn’t as innovative as it once was. The Overwatch series now acts as a profit-driven tool, no longer the perfect shooter with charming designs, a vast roster of heroes, or even the iconic moments that defined the Overwatch League. The servers are also a mess—constant lag spikes and disconnections that ruin even the rare enjoyable matches. It’s clear that Blizzard cares more about squeezing money out of players than delivering a quality gaming experience.
