Everything you want in a roguelike

Best competitive game, will never get old

The main things I like about this game are the world and how you interact with it, the great attention to detail and the cleverness of the game. Those things are all linked, let me explain.
The devs know players want to go out of their way to explore, and it is very important to reward exploration. That game does just that, and does it very well. Wherever you go, you'll find loot or even better, puzzles, to occupy you during your exploration. You don't feel like you should never have gone somewhere, that you wasted time and ressources to get there.

The puzzles themselves are smart, for example, you're just exploring and you find this altar, you hear a sound coming from it, probably inside. Around it you see 4 places where something is supposed to go, and on one of them you see a piece of meat. Now you could just take the meat to eat it but you feel there is something more to it. On the wall you see a drawing of a stag, now the pieces are coming together. You walk a bit further and what do you see ? Of course, stags. So now you understand, you solve the puzzle, get a reward, but also feel smart for finding this sweet secret with only visual information.

Now I won't talk about fights because I want to stay focused on those things I stated at the start, I'm sure other reviews do it very well. But what I want to talk about is a detail in one of those fights, as an example of the cleverness. Now here comes the comparison with Shadow of the Colossus. In SotC, you would often end up climbing an arm of a colossus, and the colossus would just try to shake you off, or look at you. Like the 15th colossus who would just do nothing while you're inside his hand, when he could simply close his hand to crush you easily. Therefore, in Praey for the Gods, I got very surprised when climbing on the arm of a boss, as I was about to attack his weak point, he just slapped his arm and crushed me like a mosquito. You don't expect it but it makes complete sense that he would do that.

So yes I recommend this game, once you get into it you'll want to do a lot more than just fight the bosses, and you will hopefully, just like me, be admirative of the work that went into making this world.
