this game made me overdose on estrogen and now im throwing up and have a sore chest ⋆‧°𓏲ּ𝄢

anyway, tldr, this game is good. not amazing, but pretty. and i love it for what it is (or tries to be).
it's a charming, nostalgic, janky movement shooter that does the job well enough, the combat is very fun and the weapon lineup/design is amazing. the only really bad thing about it is the platforming, it's very weird most of the time and downright ASS other times. oh, and it NEEDS more polish. but other than that, i love it.

worth your money? yes, but get it when it's on sale ~⋆

the meat and potatoes (actual review):

⋆‧°𓏲ּ𝄢 GOOD: ⋆‧°𓏲ּ𝄢
-great music, especially the title screen. in fact i love the title screen so much that i spent an hour on it just basking in the feels it gave me. i love the y2k aesthetic and it makes me kick my feeties
-the visuals are good for what they are, and the aesthetic is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fire. some areas i wont lie kind of look a bit rough, but the textures for the most part are fine and it shouldn't be a bother. the UI is also very clean and pretty easy to understand
-the weapons are fun as hell and very diverse, each with their own special ability that breathe new life to the standard weapons you've played with before in other games. imo they're all on the same level (except for the endgame weapon) so you can find your niche and stick to that or switch up in battle which is what i did
-has a few really fun mechanics, like the wavehopping thing, which you can use to gain speed on your own without boosts and also HEAL you over time. it's essential and actually easy to get into. (i have a nitpick about one mechanic though, i wish the time stop mechanic was around longer, it's fun to use with the sniper rifle)
-there are a lot of cute and goofy characters and throwbacks hidden in the game that i really enjoyed, and a lot of charm. like, A LOT OF charm.
-the weapon decorating is really fun to mess around with. it could have been expanded upon with more variety since there arent a lot of decals in total from what i've seen, but i still love how creative you can be with it
-ACCESSABILITY OPTIONSSSSS there's a lot of it, like for visual imparement and aiming, and you can edit the graphics if stuff get's too dark or too 'y2k' in some areas kjdalkhj

⋆‧°𓏲ּ𝄢 BAD: ⋆‧°𓏲ּ𝄢
-the platforming is my biggest issue. good lord is it ASS when it gets really bad. you need to keep moving in order to get anywhere with jumping because the momentum ♥♥♥♥ blocks you if you don't, but the platforming is so tight in places that it makes you want to slow down and be careful. it's almost like it wants to be a CS movement map at times but with all the different movement mechanics PLUS the speed mechanic, it can get really janky. also, combined with the grapple mechanic which was probably the WORST mechanic in the game, platforming was never fun for me in this game. also, making the slam move the thing that makes you latch onto rails was a terrible idea, i plummetted into the abyss multiple times bc of that (although maybe that's just a skill issue idk)
-the grapple mechanic! it's bad. sometimes it just halts all momentum at the end of the grapple, sometimes the grapple just doesnt even start, and it just makes the platforming experience so much worse. a place where this really shows is at the final area where you have to use the grapple mechanic to just keep going up and up over and over with small platforms to help, and i had a conniption during that i ended up just trying to avoid grappling as much as i could by timing my jumps/dashes adn using momentum
-weird level design. the wind mechanic is great on its own and saved me whenever i got lost, but that's the thing- you will probably get lost on some levels. idk if its just my monitor or what but in some areas the game is very hard to see (you can edit some settings to help with it a bit but it doesn't help with everything), and some level designs makes it so that the way to go is just straight up hidden and you can get confused VERY EASILY.
-enemies can get repetetive incredibly quickly about halfway into the game, there isn't enough variety in the later half imo. this could be fixed with just adding different enemies later on. the bosses on the other hand are very fun and engaging, although can be pretty tedious, and some enemies are a chore to deal with
-the game needs more polish, there was a lot of oversight with a lot of stuff. there were times where i would be listening to an imprtant story log, complete with voice acting, and it would get cut off or completely overlapped with whatever was happening on screen with other voiced lines. this happened in several places including the final area where it was MOST blatant there are a couple of places where you can very easily clip out of bounds by accident, but that's not a big deal since there are frequent checkpoints. sometimes important items can clip out of bounds too though, which is really bad
-this isn't really a con, but: the voice acting is very charming in places, and ik this game doesn't take itself seriously (which i love that, it's very charming), BUT the voice acting can be a bit off at times
-the narrative is kind of mid, but cute enough to where you'd wanna keep some track of it. the exposition dumping is heavy though, which is pretty awful, but definitely NOT as bad as some games. it can really be summed up in: helping faeries and bugs save the planet and kill corpo greed
