Tae Kim's Learning Japanese is another free app, that delves deep. Although he may not speak polite Japanese, what he does teach, he does well.
I have had fifty Japanese apps at one time. And although I have not used each one extensively, I have tried each of them and the ones posted are the best in my opinion. If you want more, friend me.
Takoboto is a free Japanese dictionary app. It is a huge. Several ways to practice flash cards. It has added pitch accents now as well.
JaReads is a free Japanese newspaper app that translates the kanji and separates them by grade.
Earthlingo is a free Japanese game both on Steam and as an app. You roam around looking at objects to get their kanji/kana. Cars drive by. People walk about. Birds fly overhead. Buildings reach into the sky. You can go into homes. Virtually anything can be looked at and learned.
