Starfield definitely falls short of the sky high expectations it has been held to throughout its development. Off the bat I was put off by the performance. I had expected a fair amount more than 50-80 fps at 1080p on medium settings considering I have a 3070 and a ryzen 7 5700x3d. I was also really disappointed when I realized that the bulk of the space travelling I'd be doing was through a menu. Going from place to place is a series of cutscenes and loading screens most of the time. However, I was able to look past this after the first couple hours of gameplay. The characters, world, and story is so well thought out that I feel like it gives fallout 4, my favorite game of all time, a run for its money. The combat feels very comfortable to me as a fallout 4 fan and it feels like they copy/pasted the combat methods and added more "punch" to it, which I absolutely love. The only thing that is constantly hampering my experience is the god awful inventory system. Considering the extra year of development they had it is shocking to me that they were comfortable releasing the game with such a basic and clunky inventory system, especially considering how much emphasis is placed on collecting and managing resources for things such as research projects.

If you are looking for a star citizen-esque space sim, this is not it. If you are looking for an incredibly solid Bethesda rpg, this game really is the next Skyrim if you are able to overlook a few glaring issues. Bear in mind that Bethesda has stated that Starfield will receive updates and content for the foreseeable future (I believe they said 10 years...?) so there is a very good chance that issues such as optimization and poor UI elements will be fixed down the road.

The atmosphere is CRAZY, this is one of the most intense games I've ever played. The last mission took me 3 days to beat because I was too scared to continue playing, I had to resort to turning the volume down really low and blasting music while holding w. The enhanced edition didn't run well even with a 3070, but the normal version looks almost as good in my opinion. Definitely worth the $8 I spent.

Fun for the first 15 or so levels, after that you start to see that this game is hollow and designed solely as a cash grab. Huge waste of $40 and 26 hours.
