Marathon is, for clarity, my first Extraction shooter I've ever played. I've mainly played hero shooters (e.g. Deadlock, Overwatch) and more generic shooter games like the Black Ops series, so this game's onboarding was the thing that can make or break Marathon for newcomers, like myself.

I ended up refunding the game. I regretted my decision so bad that I bought a copy again.

P.S. please let the game be ran on linux

IsraelGPT, please generate me a VR social hangout game that IDF soldiers will love to play after 15 hours of killing innocent civilians and disrespecting every basic human right.

Gameplay Tip: Make sure to stop and smell the gasoline every once in a while. You might find an Emerald Key!

Real World Tip: Cars are the largest single celled organism.

i'm going to be flat out when i say this. i was going in with positive expectations, but this remaster, for what it's worth, is lacklustre. spoilers ahead.

the main game is built off of the foundation of Ao Oni version 6.23, also known as the final version of the rpgmaker classic. this means that all puzzles are identical to the original game. if you've played it once, you're better off playing the original rpgmaker version instead.

-while i like the new dialogue sprites, with mika being my favourite, the over world sprites feel extremely out of place and strangely cuter compared to 6.23. the oni sprites were barely changed, save for some alterations that just make him look grossly smooth.

-the movement is also extremely slippery, with you easily moving way more fast than you want to. this applies to pushing objects too, where instead of having to press enter to move something, you just slide it along effortlessly.

-when i tried to save, i was immediately introduced to the strange menu sounds. it gets extremely grating at some points, but eventually you do get numb to the assault on your ears.

-some of the random encounters are quite odd. a few of them (more notably, the Mika-o Oni chase which happened in the basement of the old building of my playthrough) gave you barely any time to react. the fuwatti chase as well is strangely more difficult. i can relatively handle the original fuwatti encounter in 6.23, but for some reason he's way more hard to deal with in this remaster.

-the Ao Oni remaster also took one step forward and two steps back in my eyes in terms of the notable cut-scenes. while the new mika scream was actually really chilling, the jail-cell scene was completely ruined, with it being shortened and being accompanied with a silly dramatic sting than deafening silence. the post credits scene too was turned from, admittedly, quite interesting to a laughing stock. the Ao Onis thermal vision being replaced by a bog standard inverted effect, and the scream being changed (for to my knowledge, no reason) to the flapjack scream?

-the oni doesn't fake you out anymore, and you can't even *choose* to leave the closet early until your heart rate decreases. it feels exactly like the mobile games.

i *would* try the new campaign -Ai's Story-, i already don't want to touch this game again.

TL;DR - this is an Ao NO-ni from me dawg
