Whilst this is a recommend for me, Atomfall is not a game for everyone and it's not a perfect game. Although it is flawed, there is some really cool mechanics in here that I would love to see built upon.

Firstly, I love the leads mechanic. Instead of a quest log, you pick up leads by speaking to people and finding documents in game. The game does not tell you when you lose a lead due to completing a conflicting one but it does tell you when you complete leads (even those undiscovered). This branching quest system (where there isn't a main quest as such) felt enjoyable and rewarded exploration. I think it would be even more interesting if the system was developed further in future (branches cutting off earlier etc.) as you could go along with multiple quest lines for majority of them without being cut off.

Furthermore, I really enjoyed the survival shooter mechanics such as crafting throwables and consumables. I'm not usually one for using grenades in games but really enjoyed crafting and using grenades to beat enemies. I found them very satisfying to use. The fact that items used for crafting do not clog up your inventory and are stored separately was also a nice QoL feature.

Despite these mechanics being great, others are not so well realised. The stealth mechanics are very barebones. Crouch in tall grass and enemies can't see you...otherwise you'll be seen just about anywhere. It's annoying that as this does not work too well, you are just about guaranteed to get a slide at the ending telling you how brutal you are.

Furthermore, there are no quick use slots for consumables. In a game that heavily relies on quick use of these for survivability and buffs, it's annoying to go into a menu (which doesn't pause the game) to use consumables. This is a QoL feature the game could definitely do with.

During my playthrough, I also played the DLCs which tie into the main story. The DLCs don't really have a conclusive ending of their own and instead add a couple of endings to the main game. If you don't pick these as your ending, the game just reacts like you messed around in these areas and took no action which is a bit disappointing. Without picking their ending as the main game ending, you just get a kinda "*sigh* You could have done something" reaction. On the topic of the ending, the ending slides felt very inconclusive. I tried 2 different endings and both just felt like they could've been expanded on or given more conclusive narrative points.

Overall I enjoyed the game and would say there is definitely an audience for this game but wouldn't call it a perfect experience. If you're a fan of survival shooters and mysteries give this one a go. If you want to stealth and avoid combat, maybe give it a miss

Just finished this game and GAGGING for more. Brilliant game. It's like Telltale's older titles but without the "point and click" like segments.

Beautifully written and great cast of characters

Sony want to use the success of this game to bloat the amount of PSN users and to try and increase shareholder value.

Everything you love will one day be tainted by corporate greed

A good expansion on the concept of the first game but removes the RTS gameplay and replaces it with a twin stick shooter. Really fun in co-op with friends.

Would recommend

Although the game is quite expensive for a 6 hour long game, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good mystery/detective game in the same vein as Return of the Obra Dinn, Her Story or Immortality.

FromSoft have delivered once again. Such a beautifully crafted game. Surprisingly polished for a game of its size and scope which is something rare nowadays.

10/10 fully recommend.

I just finished this. It's honestly a masterpiece. Whatever you're expecting from it, it will be so much more. Just pick it up.

Has good mechanics and does choices matter well but the story ♥♥♥♥♥ itself at the end. Takes such a predictable and terrible path. It's just INCREDIBLY bad writing...christ...I have no idea what made them do that

A hardcore shooter unlike any other game I've ever played. I'm not usually one for hardcore shooters (or games in general) but GTFO is an amazing exception.

Please note though: GTFO is best played with friends, it doesn't scale for solo play and is difficult with 4 people let alone one. There is matchmaking (a recent addition) but I'm not sure how good it is.
