The AI is the worst I've ever seen in a racing game. They are absolutely not trying to win, just to cut you into pieces.
The base game doesn't give you any of the bike brands you would see in any other game, you need to buy a DLC and even after doing that, none of the AI are using them.
The sponsorship system consists in THQ and their other brands, none of the cool sponsors you would dream of getting.
You cannot change race length in carreer mode, you cannot practice before the race unless you go into time trial which is 2 extra loading screens.
After a race, you cannot go to the next one, you have to load into the freeroam mode between every single one of them. The idea of a story is cool but it's implemented in a way that just kills the flow of the game. One second you're crossing a finish like with a big whip, the next you're in a loading screen, then you're talking to your mechanic that tells you a random fact about your childhood.
The game has huge potential in terms of gameplay but everything around it needs some work. Graphics are nice, but that's any game nowadays.

I have never been an MMO player, my friends basically forced me to give this one a try, I got hooked, they all quit after the tutorial and I kept playing for a few more (thousand) hours.
The gameplay is amazing, there is no other word for it.
The legion raids were all epic fights against meaningful villains, the raid mechanics felt unique and well designed even when difficult. The rewards were gear related, beat a boss craft a new set of armor raise your character and go to the next.
That was years ago, nowadays raids feel rushed, very fast paced and painful, the rewards moved towards more and more and more rng systems to sink your weekly gold into and get some power back if you're lucky.
Speaking of luck, all the whales I know are lucky to insanely lucky, all the f2p players I know are rng cursed. I was free to play for years and never had luck, dumped 70€ and got the luckiest week I've ever had, do what you want with that information.
At this point I keep coming back to the game because of the memories of good boss design and fun raids, but with a full time job it is very hard to even be a casual player, especially if you don't pay for rng blessing.
They have successfully killed the fun for me by releasing 2 raids on the same update, with that implementing a progression system which relies on not one, not two but three different layers of rng!
TLDR 10/10 will keep playing.

They took the issues from Monster Energy Supercross 3 and put them right into MXGP, and even added some more.
For the 6th iteration of the game you would think Milestone learned something, but having played the first 3 of them I can say they're not very good at fixing issues.
It requires a level of precision that a joystick cannot achieve, just like M.E Supercross. The movements are way too sensitive and therefore impossible to enjoy. You can now rail corners, this is positive, and probably the only real improvement since the first games. But the physics are so unreliable that you just cannot launch yourself into turns full gas, you will go straight through it half of the time with the exact same speed and angle.
I played every MX games on realistic with pro physics and never had an issue finishing first. On this one, I am playing in Easy difficulty and still struggle. Not because the AI is fast, but because it's broken. They will follow you no matter how fast you go, and then once they're in front they will suddenly slow down and make mistakes.
It feels like they wanted to make suspension settings mendatory to dominate, and while they do make a big difference, restarting/finishing a race will reset them to factory and you can't save one setting per track.
Finally, and this is new, they made 1st person view painful to use. I have never used 3rd person on their games and will never do, but the lack of any kind of stability on the bike makes me dizzy, and it's literally not a thing in 3rd person which is very unfair to me. Not to mention that the game is locked on 30fps by default which adds even more pain to ride at high speed.
Would not recommend to anyone, hardcore fan or casual.
Update : still as broken, still no fun included.

Cannot have 2 save files at once. Menu bugs out, you accidentally click "new game" after hours upon hours of progression = everything is gone.

The joy of most downhill mountainbiker in the world is to be able to know a track from top to bottom and shred the f**k out of it, which is impossible in Descenders since the levels are generated just before you ride them, which makes the whole game kind of... unsatisfying to me. Back to mtbfreeride demo.

"WHY IS MY INTERNET SO SLOW? Oh, wait... *checks steam* yeah, pubg update..."
-Me, everyday since I've installed this game.
I'll add that generally you would be happy that a game gets so many updates, but after more than 15 differents (still broken) builds you get kinda tired of it.
EDIT: this is still valid in 2023

I paid for a free game, here's my story.
I was looking for a winter sports game that could actually fit this status, I found Snow, early access but looking good and promessing. I bought it to support the developpement of the project.
Then one day I come back, the game is free, doesn't look anything like what I bought, which has the following effects : a flat game without any interest (having the purchased version grants me access to every mountain), where everybody has the same outfit, multiplayer is boring and only available in freeroam on the tutorial mountain (which is the only one you'll access for free), easily 75% of the events are bugged ( finishing runs with 0 points like you never moved, or simply never get your reward, or crash while receiving it ), and you get no money from winning events like X games, so if you want a custom outfit you'll have to use either grinding levels or your credit card. My true definition of videogames cancer.
