I did not know until playing how badly I needed such a straightforward game. Everything accessible from one menu. It's a very nostalgic kind of feeling to have everything just be right there. Also the game is so much fun.
ALLMIND exists for all mercenaries.

Every time I boot this game up I am amazed at what they have accomplished. I'll admit that I was overhyped for this game and I expected and hoped for too much, and yet somehow, all of it was delivered on and exceeded. The game itself is breathtakingly gorgeous and the classic dark souls combat is so perfectly refined at this point. The open world was a worry for me because for years I have been sick of empty or boring open worlds but this one is absolutely packed with things to do and see. There is not an inch of wasted space.
I've always been hesitant to recommend the souls series to people because I know it is not for everyone but I would wholeheartedly recommend this game to anyone who ever had even a passing interest in the souls series. From has almost completely learned their lesson that keeping the story weird and hidden is okay but keeping vital gameplay mechanics is not. This is the most accessible and easily understood (mechanically) a souls game has ever been.
If you are interested in this game but are worried about the Dark Souls "famous" difficulty I would still suggest giving this game a shot. Ignore the loser community who tell you its the hardest game ever and that if you're not good you should "git gud" or not play. Summon a cooperator, use your little NPC friends, run past hard enemies, cheese bosses, it doesn't matter. In these games a win is a win. Feel no shame looking up a guide, these games are obtuse and wanting a little guidance is not something that should be looked down on.
The PC Version I will give an 8/10 because of performance issues (your mileage may vary) but just from a THE GAME perspective I give it a solid 10. This might be my new favorite game of all time (excluding of course Marble Blast Gold).

This game is a ton of fun but I've now played it too much in the middle of the night right before going to bed that it is now tied to my bed time routine. This game knocks me unconscious in like 20 minutes every time without fail

Everyone talks about the monsters and how they like them and they are sad to kill them, not me. I kill every creature I see. Never capture. Love to ruin the environment. Love to hurt and kill.

Ghostrunner is a first person action platformer with a focus on melee combat and speed. The goal is to use your sword to cut everyone in half as fast as you possibly can while wall running, jumping, sliding and dashing your way through the ribs and spines of all the funny little men with baby guns inferior to superior steel blade. The story that happens around you is interesting enough but it's your typical cyberpunk stuff, complete with AI, Mega Structures, Corporate Greed and the classic "What does it mean to be human?"

The stand out positives of this game are as follows;
- The Movement (90% of the time)
Hey, come here, do you want to go fast? Come closer. No, even closer. I'll tell you how to go fast. Go into a slide and then immediately jump. You're gonna be zoomin. You'll be flying around so fast you'll miss half the dialogue in this game.
The movement in this game is so tight and fluid, everything blends together so well. Slide jumping off of a cliff and then grappling to a wall and running along it to a zip line then jumping onto a drone and riding it down into a group of guys who burst into paste from the resulting explosion of the drone crash has never felt as good in any other game that let's you do all of those things as it does in this game
- The Combat
Despite mostly being "click to cut man into two pieces" at no point did I find the combat boring. If this game had a more standard action game style to it with a health bar and level design more focused on combat instead of movement I'm sure this would have gotten boring very quickly, but the focus on out maneuvering your enemies instead of overpowering them made every fight feel like a puzzle that requires you to know what kinds of enemies were around you and what paths you could take to get their heads off their shoulders as quick as you can. There's also some fun abilites you unlock along the way for some more varied killing methods
- The Level Design
Now the level design isn't anything too fancy but it's so tightly designed for each encounter. Every fight or every platforming puzzle is made so much more fun by the speed you gain and the way you navigate the levels. Even a platforming section that is needed to progress can leave you feeling like you've just accomplished the most badass impossible stunt.
- (Most) Enemies
Every single enemy type in the game adds some new interesting twist to the way you take on a challenge. Some guys have a gun that shoots one shot at a time, some guys have machine guns, others charge at you head on with a sword and need to be parried with precise timing. Some are chicken walker robots that just delete everything in front of them as soon as you get in their line of sight. The enemy variety isn't huge but it's just varied enough to keep the fights feeling fresh and challenging.
- The Soundtrack
Now this is the thing that stands out on it's own, it of course still blends great with the theme and style of the game but I'll bump this stuff on it's own. It's what you'd expect, high energy electronic music. The soundtrack just adds so much to the fights and platforming, encouraging you to go faster to keep up with the fast paced music. It really does feel like you just slipped on a banana peel like a funny clown when you miss a jump after such a nice chain of movements while this heavy industrial electronic music plays.
- The Deaths
This game knows what you're trying to do, you're trying to kill and you're trying to kill fast. As soon as you die you can immediately start from a checkpoint that's right outside the combat. There's no loading screen when you start it over again so you don't accidentally calm your bloodlust. This game wants you to be a ravenous monster looking for its next torso to split in half.
- The Length of the Game
I know a lot of people see this as a bad thing "Oh, what!? You can beat this game in four hours? That's so short." but I promise you this is one of my favorite things about the game. I love that I can sit down and play this game start to finish in a single sitting. The speed and challenge of this game makes you want so bad to do it faster, kill more efficiently. The game does not overstay it's welcome, the enemies and levels are just varied enough to fill out the game perfectly. If the game would have gone on any longer it would have felt like a repetitive slog of the same things over and over. The short run time and the speed of this game left me wanting to do it all again but FASTER as soon as the credits finished.

And now for the not as great things
- The Movement Revisited
90% of the time the movement is fluid and excellent and makes you feel incredible. The other 10% of the time you latch onto a wall you didn't want to and wall run yourself into a pit, or you don't latch to the wall at all and fall into a pit. Sometimes it can feel like a real pain to get that right angle when jumping off some wall to grab that zipline, or hook that grapple point, or land on that drone, which will of course lead to you falling into a pit. It can be frustrating sometimes with the auto wall running sticking you to a wall you weren't even looking at and it can kill the feeling of horrible violence you were just experiencing as you fall down into that pit.
- The One Enemy That I Think Sucks justmyopinion
*Spoiler I guess?
Later in the game you start to run into these little ghouls that crawl around really fast and then explode when they get close to you. I didn't like these guys. They were definitely added to increase the anxiety of this already very fast game, and they definitely do that, but I didn't think it was done in a very fun way. It's the only enemy you can't attack with your sword in the entire game. It's very hard to know where they are at any time because they move so fast and climb on pretty much any surface. The number of times I was running along a wall and then one of these little ghouls comes crawling around a 90 degree corner along the wall at 1,000 miles an hour and just immediately kills me because I couldn't see it coming was a little too many for my liking. They also constantly make these horrible noises (which I get it they're supposed to sound creepy to make the moment more tense) that just do not stop. It's just this endless cycle of wet mouth noises that continue even when you're out of their aggro range. Get's annoying.
- The Cybervoid
These levels are like platforming challenges without the platforming in the game. In the majority of these levels they take away most of your movement options. No wall running, no dashing. What's the point of a platforming challenge if I can't use the platforming mechanics that make this game fun? Now these are mostly actual PUZZLE puzzles, like spin the things until they all line up or wander this maze until you find all the glowing video game orbs but I feel like they could have been made more interesting if they included the actual mechanics the rest of the game had (the final cybervoid level DOES give you all your regular mechanics and it actually makes for an awesome platforming challenge, the rest are just boring puzzles and regular jump). I just feel like they slow down the game and hit me with an intermission I did not want. You can still slide jump though and that's always fun.
- The Boss fights
*Also kind of spoilers
Dark Souls this is not. The boss fights in this game are pretty lackluster, there's only 3 and they're pretty backloaded in the campaign. I'd say the first boss comes a little after the half-way point. They are all pretty simple and straight forward. One boss you have to parry a couple of times until it finally lets you hit it, another just attacks and you have to dodge for a while until it finally lets you hit it. The only boss I really liked was hardly even an enemy, it was just a big platforming segment with lasers and a health bar for some reason. Have I mentioned that I liked this game's platforming and movement?

that's it. 8/10
