good gameplay loop, lots of things to explore and do, level progression feels very rewarding. excited to see the future of this game and to experience more of what is being planned. as of writing this review i am playing a shortstack imp fighter with a big sword and i am having THE time of my life. i am so fond of this game i love it

revisiting this review because when i first reviewed this game i had a little more hope for future patches.
baldur's gate III is wonderful, very fun to play for people who already enjoy dnd, but also those who are completely unfamiliar with the game system entirely.

i think that is one of its greatest strengths.
alongside that, baldur's gate III runs very smoothly on high graphics settings on just about any system, the optimization is pretty amazing.
actual gameplay is good, combat can be a little extensive, but regardless everything from the story, to the sheer amount of content is wonderful.

my one and only gripe with baldur's gate, that if amended would make this game probably my all-time favorite, is the lack of customization. dnd is truly a creative realm of endless possibilities, but i find that baldur's gate III is severely lacking on this front. it has a handful of the core races, a handful of core classes and subclasses. this in itself is somewhat understandable in a mechanical sense, but the actual physical customization allowed for your character feels very limiting, with little ability to adjust the little details, in comparison to many other games on the market right now, such as elden ring and monster hunter.

overall, i still give baldur's gate III a solid 8.5/10. sadly with the final patch being released, i don't foresee the total customization being added.
