i am incredibly biased because i played this game as a kid, but it really is fun. pretty easy, but really fun. also you get to splatter fascists by the hundreds under your Immense Girth which is always a plus.
it does get its messages a little bit mixed up sometimes? i dont play it for the nitty gritty story details though so it doesn't really matter. overall the "fascism and pollution bad, art and environmentalism good" message stays throughout, and that's a good baseline thing to say. gotta remember the game was made for children in the late aughts-early 10s as well.

I need to admit, I wasn't entirely sure if Yacht Club would be able to follow up Shovel Knight, but this has proven that they're entirely capable of matching its quality and polish multiple times. The combination of top-down Legend of Zelda-style gameplay with mechanics from Castlevania and Soulslike games (alongside a leveling system that seems to be inspired by Zelda 2 of all things) SOUNDS like it'd be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of clashing systems, but it's done so well, with its own mechanics added on top, that it really feels like its own thing. Very excited for the full release.

Game is amazing all around. Allows you to build superb stories, while also having good, engaging gameplay. I will say that I've seen repeat events a couple times, however, but I don't know if that's the game's fault or I'm just unlucky.

It's shovel knight. Buy it. Please.
