I was originally on the fence with this, despite absolutely loving the 2016 game I was wondering if lightning could strike twice. Some of the videos I'd seen seemed to show a slower pace to the game and with the introduction of what seemed to be a more online focused game I was a little hesitant to get the game on release.

That was a mistake.

There's a larger variety of enemies in Doom Eternal and the game still has that fast paced running and gunning. Ammo seems a bit more sparse than in the original but you get the chainsaw from the get go which recharges over time so you should always be able to recover ammo unless you're up against something big. Despite the ammo issue the game does feel a little easier to me, this might have something to do with the equipment you unlock during play.

Weapons feel satisfying to use, as do the glory kills and the general ultra-violence. Secrets seem a little more obvious than the 2016 game which sort of defeats the object but that's really a minor thing.

Overall the game is more of the same and tries to do a few things a little differently, if you're a fan of Doom and don't have it yet I would fully recommend it.
