Fooled by the trailer, I wanted to see how big of a ripoff of Firewatch this is going to be. It's sadly just a mix of a unity asset flip with nothing in it, no objective, nothing. The player model is just the default pill model that casts shadows, which the dev forgot to turn off. The game menu has a basic start and quit button; once you leave the menu, it is no longer accessible. Considering the fact that there is nothing in it, why would you even bother? The map is also just a big asset flip, trust me, I have looked around for too long. I have found a pink missing texture fence though, guess that's the closest you can get to beating this game. Also you have to ALT+F4 to leave it. Why are these kinds of games allowed on Steam in the first place? I really wonder who "makes" this and deems it ready to publish online. I just hope it didn't have a bitcoin miner or something malicious in it. I also really wonder about the dev announcement under it that says "Changing the genre of the game because people don't find this appealing". If you are complaining about Forest Tower, called Testing.exe in the actual files btw, are you really surprised people don't play this? Even the "full game" that I bet doesn't even exist in a first place has an AI generated cover and description while AI usage is not mentioned anywhere. You need a reality check.

TL;DR: There's nothing. Thank you son.

feels like early access but it's a cool game when it works, either get rid of online only for solo or get more servers lol

It's good, music slaps, visuals are absurd but great, combat is fun but hit detection can be jank sometimes and i've not found myself using the M2 kick button/dash much.

I mean, it's Boneworks 1.5 alright... I wish I could give this game a neutral review, because for the 40€ price tag I've expected something better I suppose.

No for real, if you've never played Boneworks, this game is gonna be great, since it's basically Boneworks and that game was awesome.
It's cool that you can now play it standalone on the Quest 2, but as a PCVR player (who has already experienced the first game), it's rather disappointing to me. The game reuses a lot of assets and yeah I get it, if it ain't broken don't fix it, but the thing is, they kept even things that were jank in the first game and I have no idea if it's just me, but jumping, climbing and "parkour" feels so bad and gunplay feels slightly worse than in the first game.

Oh yeah and the fact that you hid the main game story behind a minigame is absolutely top notch. Maybe I am just stupid, but I legit thought that the 30 mins prologue was "it" and the rest is just minigames and mods (which I don't really care about at all).

All in all I have no idea if I should refund it or take my chances and hope the game will improve, because if not then for the full price it's a hard pass for anyone who has already played the first game.

I really don't know if I should recommend this game to be honest.

It sounds quite hypocritical since I have over 200 hours in it and own all the map DLCs. I mean, if I wasn't having fun, I wouldn't be playing it, right? The idea behind the game is awesome and it is basically the only title filling the void in this genre since SWAT 4 was released back in 2005. However, I have a real love-hate relationship with this game.
I’ve been playing since it first launched on Steam and have gone through every major update that added new things (and removed many others, including maps and features). While the game has gotten progressively different in certain ways, many of the issues I had with it at the start are still there to this day.

Keep in mind this is a review for the multiplayer, not single player. I don't play that so I cannot speak about the positives and negatives of AI teammates and such.

The thing that disappoints me the most is the suspect AI behavior.
I know it isn't easy to balance suspects so they are a real threat while remaining possible to beat, but it really feels like the game fails at this miserably. I still don't understand how SWAT 4 managed to do this so well compared to RoN despite being over a decade older.
Here it feels like the suspects know where you are at all times. While they do have a certain delay before they shoot so they don't instantly cap you, their aim is almost laser like. Suppressive fire against them or actually wounding does literally nothing to their accuracy, this aspect just simply doesn't exist.
It truly feels like an invisible percentage meter is rising every millisecond a suspect sees you and once it reaches 100 % in a second or two you are guaranteed to get shot. Taking cover also doesn't really help, corner peeking is nearly useless.
This wouldn't be such a problem if the accuracy scaled with range (it doesn't) or depended on the suspect's characteristics, there is no actual difference between a random methhead with a pistol and an experienced exmilitary guy with a rifle, they all have the same aim.
This is made worse by the fact that suspects often have a visual on you when you can’t even see them and sometimes it's near instant. The new bank map is a perfect example because the upper floor has several windows with curtains, which is not covering the whole glass and has gap. At least one suspect will almost always spawn there and shoot you trough that gap while you can't see them at all. I guess it would be fine if you could take cover and hide but they will almost always cap you if you go trough the main entrance. You might claim it is realistic for the suspects to have the upper hand sometimes, but it simply is not fun gameplay wise.

Most of the maps are incredibly huge and complicated. It feels like you are navigating a maze sometimes, but I suppose shorter maps would be completed very quickly and also get stale quite fast. At the end of every mission you have to (or rather should) walk around and collect all the guns and find all the hidden civilians for a higher score and grade. This is honestly incredibly boring and after searching for over ten minutes for one civilian that is wandering around the map or is hidden somewhere it just makes you wanna die.

The guns themselves feel nice and are fun, but if you don't want to give yourself an artificial challenge, there is little reason to pick anything weaker than a 7.62mm rifle. The smaller calibers often feel borderline unusable. There's also less lethal variants, but I really can't say how effective it is nowadays since I don't use them anymore.

Performance is also mediocre even after the developers downgraded the visuals for the sake of optimization (and censorship). That is a whole other topic I won't get into, seems like every other review has it covered already and I really wouldn't care about it if the core gameplay wasn't so lackluster, that is what bothers me the most.

Basically, the game could be great but is very disappointing in a lot of different ways. The developers clearly have a vision for how they want to continue developing this game which I don't align myself with and while I will probably be playing it every now and then when a new patch with a map drops, it is nowhere as good as I thought it would be when it was first announced.
