Early Access Review
A masterful strategic game with fresh vision and solid execution. I've gotten my money's worth and then some! If you've enjoyed games like OpenTTD or Factorio then this is right up your alley.

Runs great on older machines and controls are fairly reasonable to learn. Mods take this game 100x further alongside the powerful scripting options. Best way to spend the evenings remotely!

I have been playing this game since beta in 2013, so I've had a firsthand look at how the game evolved in the past 5 years. Here's a concise list of the game's faults, highlights, and my thoughts on them.

Negative:
  • Very grind-heavy. The developers have made the grinds longer and longer throughout the years. BUT, the game is fun at all vehicle tiers, and low-tier combat is arguably the most balanced.
  • A fair amount of money-grubbing. Most comes in the form of speeding up the grind through premium subscription or premium vehicles.
  • Poor balance. Aircaft and tanks are generally competitive as individual units, but some nations have higher winrates because of general traits (e.g. russian tanks are fast and cap points first, Germans are slower and worse at pushing objectives, etc.). Some premium vehicles are strong, but none of them are blatantly pay-to-win. Meta rebalanced as time goes on, messing up some things.
  • Realistic damage models can lead to you getting one-shotted with no warning, which can be frustrating as you only have one spawn most of the time.
Positive:
  • The game is absolutely beautiful and runs well on almost all machines (planes moreso). The art team is very talented and the models are extremely high-detailed.
  • A ton of vehicles with more being added. No lack of content here.
  • Lots of room for skill in Realistic and Simulator game modes. Improving your aim and game sense can be very satisfying as you notice yourself getting better.
  • The game is fun from the first minute, no grinding needed to start off strong.
  • Fairly realistic damage and weapon behavior.

All in all, it's a fun game, although certainly far from perfect. There are some fundamental issues caused by questionable developer decisions that will show themselves as you invest more time into the game, it's really up to you to decide if they are deal-breakers or not. I would recommend you jump in and give it a spin.
