Insurgency would be a great game, if it ever let me play. It's a well designed game, which keeps most of the positive aspects of the original mod, such as the uncompromising difficulty, while adding some polish. Unfortunately, like many people who have also complained about this, I can't play due to a bug that disconnects me from the server pretty much every time I try. The developers are aware of the issue but do nothing, and won't even discuss fixing it. Worth getting if you want to risk it.

I was a bit unsure about dropping money on a text based superhero adventure game, mostly because there are a lot of potential pitfalls in combining the genres, but I think steam has chosen it's first text based game well. It doesn't overcome the limitations of the genres, such as the sometimes constricting linearity of text adventures, and the cheesiness and melodrama of superheroes, but instead embraces them and works within these constraints to craft a satisfyingly complex narrative that lives up to the best standards of the genres. The choices you make are convincing in how they drive the story, and it's nice to have a meaningful stats screen that actually helps, rather than hinders, you to enjoy the game. For those who already like the genres: you'll enjoy this; for don't like these genres: look elsewhere; to the majority just looking for an entertaining game: keep an open mind and I promise you'll get your money's worth. This is a smart, well written adventure, and that's something anyone should be able to get behind.
