I've been following this game on Twitter for a while now and I'm happy to say this demo gives me all the good vibes I was hoping for. It's like Spider-Man 2 where the webs swinging felt so delightful especially when you hit that perfect swing that pulled thru into an impossible turn that transitioned effortlessly into a dive onto a roof top. It just felt cool, and likewise Haste has that in spades so far.

The immediate game loop of mastering jumping is already really fun and there is enough scenery and obstacles that I know this could get interesting and potentially very hard to complete. Moving objects and fiddly bits that you have to thread the needle thru really give this a lot of potential. Like playing Cluster Truck there are genuinely nail biting moments getting through a small hole in an obstacle trying to get as many sparks as possible. S-classing each node is genuinely pretty hard

The controls are interesting for a game that's all about jumping because it doesn't have jump button, reason being that the game is actually about "ramping". It took a moment to reconfigure my brain to know what to do. I do also love that your ability to turn and move on the ground or air while sprinting is responsive and not limited to your extreme momentum, but I think mouse+keeb suffers a bit using the 'aim to get more hang time' mechanic over a jump button, though I believe this is a controller first game so that makes sense that it might suffer a bit. I think this will be a killer game on Steam Deck.

I was sorta surprised to see the greater game loop pulled directly out of Slay the spire and other Node based crawlers. I was wondering how moving from level to level would work when I first saw the game so a node based approach works and this makes the game recognizable and quick to jump into, plus it makes the game somewhat re-playable with new runs and items available. It's a plus for sure, but I am cautious to know if it's a loop that will help the player increase their power level to take on greater challenges adding skills and unlocks or if it's only a gimmick that fosters re-playablitly. Happy to find out once way or the other I'm just not getting my hopes up for either; I'll let the Devs make that call for their game.

So far the boss fight in this demo is basic but I know that's the Devs not wanting to spill all the beans on what they have planned. Boss fights could have a lot of potential and I know they are going to deliver on them being fun and interesting.

I'm very excited to see more I wish The Devs lots of success with this game and future endeavors!

Love a indie like this where the hype was actually real, and the best fun is in the small moments and jump to jump and finding all the new little locations. It's really something special. I hope it allows for a great follow up from this developer.

An unbelievably great-great game.

couple points...

I will say the controls need some work, they are complex and inclusive of a host of interactions with the world which makes it understandably difficult to map to a keyboard, also CoQ is a 1000% better on a full size Keyboard and not a TKL keyboard like I started playing with. A Ten-Key is the most useful thing for this game and playing it quickly without having to click seven buttons just to move diagonally. It needs better mapping to controllers and less tomfoolery required on the users part to organize the keyboard layout to your play style.

The ui still is not the best and is reminiscent of the kinda of retro games it represents. I like a retro game with out the retro UX. It's only recently better on Steam Deck since the text was nearly unreadable as it didn't scale well, but there is still issues with text overlapping elements in game and truncating text as it runs off the screen. The Text on a normal screen is perfectly fine but still some of the text gets cut off or overlaps elements.

The thing that makes this game great is the randomness, the setting, the strangeness, it's ability to surprise you, and the just plain interoperability with things. it's so weird and makes for a better game with quest and interactions that are so much better than all the other open-world games like an Elder Scrolls game.

Anyways Highly recommend this game. Especially If they get this game nailed down with true and well organized controller support out of the box without a bunch of user modification and a bit more modern ui with some better menu navigation this would make for the most brilliant low power Steam Deck game ever.

9/10
