Matt was no ordinary kid—he was a goober in every sense of the word: awkward, wide-eyed, and armed with an overactive imagination. Growing up in the sleepy town of Spruce Hollow, Matt spent most of his days building cardboard spaceships and dodging social interaction like it was lava. But everything changed the summer he turned thirteen, when his best friend moved away and he was forced to navigate middle school alone. Through a series of embarrassing missteps, including an unfortunate talent show performance involving kazoo beatboxing, Matt slowly learned that being different wasn't something to hide—it was his greatest strength. By the time fall rolled around, the once-clumsy goober had found his footing, embraced his quirks, and discovered that growing up wasn't about fitting in, but about figuring out who you are—even if who you are wears mismatched socks on purpose.
