The game is fine and already a lot of fun. It will get better with time. No BF launch is ever smooth. People have no sense of proportion

The game is incredibly deep and has a ton of replay value. The mechanincs are fun and engaging. You can passively learn a bunch of interesting history while playing.

The DLC can get expensive. The learning curve is tough for new players.

I think Paradox should probably bundle old DLC with the base game, but even if they don't, you can buy the old DLC on sale frequently. Who buys a billion DLC packs before they even know if they'll enjoy the game? The base game is still good. If you like it, buy the DLC during the next sale. As a new player, I wouldn't pay $200+ for the game and DLC until I knew I loved it. I'd buy the base game and give it a try. If I liked it, I'd buy the DLC on sale. If I loved it, I'd buy new DLC when it comes out if the features look good. I did that and now have over 1,700 hours in the game. It's been worth every penny (and more) to me. People are talking about making a stupid decision to impulsively spend a lot of money on something they might enjoy, and then they're complaining about how bad their choice was. Don't do that. Dip your feet in first.

If you're new, check the wiki frequently and watch some Let's Plays. It's a great game.

A lot of people are angry because Paradox changed their pricing model, and that caused prices to go up outside of North American and Western Europe. If people think the game isn't worth the now higher prices, that's fine, but it isn't like the game has gotten worse. It seems like buying it on sale substantially mitigates any issue there anyway.
