Quit complaining about performance. It'll be patched... or just adjust your settings. Love the game.

If The Sims, GTA Chinatown Wars, and your generic business tycoon had a lovechild.

This game is surprisingly complete in early access, and I have enjoyed a majority of what it has to offer.

What I like: customization, detailed menus and data on businesses, and * almost * true-to-life business development.

What could use some work: interaction with the world, easier customization menus, more variety of customization, additional businesses (give me an IT MSP business option), more world polish, and interaction with the world. I also think some * not-so-legal * businesses could be a great addition as well.

What happened to the days of buying a game that is relatively bug-free? Didn't realize I spent $70 on this half-baked beta. Gunplay is fun-- when it doesn't crash. Story is great-- if it doesn't crash. Yes I have the latest drivers, and yes I am running recent hardware.

Just fix your game.

DayZ isn't a hardcore survival simulator, but it is close to one. Whether you're starving, sick, or injured, every decision you make matters and ever item has a purpose. Encounters with other players feel weighty, as your gear is on the line, making death something you want to avoid at all costs. Zombies, though their AI is rudimentary, are something to sneak by, or take out silently if you can. awakening a horde is a terrifying thing. The modding community is great, and have worked hard on tweaks to improve the game's mechanics, from loot to building. Well worth a look. Bottom line: every decision matters in DayZ, and make friends if you can.

- Has some work to do, but is good.
- Battlepass and quests feel good, keep you switching up characters and trying new things. Not grindy.
- Needs polish. Characters feel too "heavy" and don't seem to lock on as well as something as polished as Smash Bros.
- Free-to-play + famous characters + bright, flashy gameplay = success apparently...

I am very logical and logistics minded. If you suffer from this form of autism, then this is the game for you.

INITIAL REVIEW.
While I enjoyed the quick-paced gunplay of the beta, and found it to be an improvement over previous titles from my perspective, the stability, optimization, and network connection digs this game's grave.

I'm not a huge fan of the specialist system either. I often desire to play as someone who I relate to, and none of these specialists feel like me. Locking the perks to a specialist rather than in the loadout/class system feels like a cop out to force players into playing as someone they may not identify with.

In terms of gameplay, as mentioned, the gunplay is enjoyable... if your hits land. Visuals are meh, since I am forced to play on low for any sort of performance boost on a 2 year old, mid-tier rig. While in my short time I did not experience many visual glitches, the ones I did experience took away from the game (the invisible window drove me up the wall). The world mechanics are cheap and unrefined. Obviously gone are the days of total destruction and now scripted events decide the fate of the battle, something that ruins the experience for me. I loved blowing up entire buildings, man did I love blowing up buildings back in the day.

I listed this as an initial review, in hopes of updating it in the future once things are fixed. EA and DICE have failed on this one. Needed more time in the oven. Just like GTA. EA, thanks for adding to my disappointment in gaming this year. I will continue to turn to indie developers who aren't just looking for a cash grab.

Game is great, and is for sure a fresh take on colony sims. Building is a ton of fun, and can get super hectic as I suck at planning out builds. I wish that the importance of beaver needs was highlighted more, I really didn't dive to deep into nutrition or that kind of thing. Looking forward to what's next!
