It's Terraria, but more. You have to wade through some garbage, but only if you go by most recent XD

Early Access Review
So... This product can already stand on its own as a competent toy to tinker around with if you're willing to learn some LUA and dive into the game's API.

BUT they haven't delivered on their roadmap and updates seem to have stagnated (if they aren't dead entirely.) At the time of this review, Steam is also now warning it's possibly abandoned.

I've played it enough and owned it long enough I dont qualify for a refund. I'm so sick of these really cool games I support that get ditched in Early Access. Hence: not recommended.

If I'm proven incorrect in the future, I'll definitely come back and change this review.

Edit: There's since been a small update adding some features to grab resources from online hosting. We'll see how far it goes!

The Devs have stated plainly, if you don't own this game, wait until the remake comes out and buy that. They're currently working on a sequel and then will use all they've learned to remake this game even better.

That being said, it stands tall in the genre. It's got some jank, but I can recommend this to those that are even reading this review. Pick it up cheap and then buy the remake when it's released. Keep an eye on the sequel, too.

I'm a huge fan of Shovel Knight and the rest of Treasure Trove so was excited to see what they would do with the Link's Awakening style. Mina seems to be a mix of classic Zelda and Castlevania with a dash of Bloodborne.

The boss combat took me a minute to get used to, as there isn't really a dodge. Everything else in the demo was peak classic gaming with that modern flair the studio is known for.

Beat the demo and have to say I'm really excited to play this game with friends.

Think Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, but crab.

So far, I'm loving this game. I'm a few hours into the demo and am excited for the full release. Highly recommended to anyone that enjoys Stardew Valley and Factorio. This is truly how I sometimes wish I could play Stardew.

That being said, here are some very small things I'd like to mention before the full release:
  • There's no option to save and quit. You have to finish the day in order to save. I don't like this is Stardew, either. We have lives and sometimes they get in the way.
  • I know it's a story-driven experience, but it'd be nice to be able to name the main character. Some of the characters call you by a nickname, but some other generic term could work if the game detects your name isn't "Morgan."
  • The constant item bubbles over machines and storage chests can obscure a lot of what you're doing. It's possible I missed an option to toggle them (I plan on playing more anyway and will update this review if it's there.) Even some transparency could help.
  • The only time I really noticed this was walking behind the silo building, but there's no way to track where your character is when obscured by a building.

Really, these are my only "gripes" so far from my short jaunt in the demo. Amazing Next Fest grab and I am truly stoked to buy this game.

I'm already hoping there's a sequel that takes place on the moon or something (I'm assuming you eventually finish the rocket :P)

I love this game, but since Steam doesn't have ratings and instead has binary Yes/No recommend, I won't recommend this game until they add a way to repeat events you missed.

Yes, I'm aware some people just upload the files as 3rd party mods.

Early Access Review
Everyone is saying Factorio meets Terraria. I've got over 1k hours in Terraria and I'd say it's closer to Starbound. But don't stop reading yet.

For an early access game, there's a lot here. It scratches the logistical itch of Factorio while managing to realise it's own spin quite well. You've got your raw resources, intermediates, and science items, along with your various assemblers and industries to balance and manage.

As for the Starbound vs. Terraria comparison: I think the enemies and combat feel more like Starbound, and the overall style leans more in that direction. In my opinion anyway. Add in a little Frackin' Universe (which I only used briefly and stopped supporting) and you've got Autoforge. As someone that ended up greatly disappointed in Starbound and Chucklefish, I want to make it clear that this comparison isn't a derision. I just want people to have a better picture of what this game is, and Terraria it is not.

Still a ways to go, it's still early access, but it is very playable and they've kept to their roadmap. If you are looking to plan an elaborate base of pipes and machines, this is definitely going to provide that for you. The Autoforge must grow.

I bought the game hoping for Faxanadu and got something more akin to Castlevania 1. A decent NES era throwback but not what I was hoping for. Not going to refund it, but know what you're buying.

I've owned articy:draft since 1. I've bought both upgrades (so now own 3) on sale when they released. To my knowledge at the time, it seemed unique in what it was doing and was pretty much exactly what I was looking for.

I simply can't recommend this software for the price. You're better off using a note-taking program like Obsidian with some plugins unless you're really hurting for some of the game-dev specific features herein. The one thing this has that I wish I could find elsewhere is the ability to edit templates and template pieces and have the program easily update all items that use that template. Obsidian can't and will likely never do that. It's easy to keep projects consistent with articy:draft.

Versions 2 & 3, in hindsight, seemed like cash grabs rather than true enhancements, which is another reason I just don't plan on spending any more money on this product, if it ever gets updated again.
