hang on im leaving this review open while im trying the challenge mission on hard

anyway this game is cool and while i feel the vn sections can be a LIL drawn out and the references a LIL too much im going to blame that on chapter 1 syndrome.

otherwise this is a really fun demo that isnt Quite Like The Older Procedures in a refreshing-ish way and i hope to have a more stable cursor when the full game releases so i can go get a copy for me and trauma center fan friend

okay yeah this is fun i missed this. i think ill wait for the XS grind until the full game's out though

Picked this game back up on Switch.

Dude why is the neutral final boss so ass why the ♥♥♥♥ do I Have To play a Flame build just so I can kill the Boss With 20 Times The Health Of Any Other to unlock a new starting loadout

The thing is this Would be the only thing dragging it down but also lots of roguelikes struggle with not having an ass final boss so. :thumpsdown: it is

Append 2: oh my god i did 100% this. never again.

dont look at my 3 prepped mod saves

Append: I have been throwing myself at what I believe is just the most ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ postgame hard whatever ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ boss in any RPG ive played at least a hundred times now oh my god how do you make a fight that is This Unenjoyable, Yeah sure ill take down 32k HP at 0.3 the efficiency with DoTs being disabled and every enemy attack being a 50% AoE crit. what is this

Incredibly fun game!
Just a good, clean, FFV-like RPG .. that sort of falls off in the super late game because god finding the last mount (after sequence breaking another one, anyway) because GOD the platforming.
That being said, the game is, combat-wise, very much fun! Big fan of every effect being very clear and most status effects being 100%, instead being balanced by infliction counts/only lower percentage if too potent makes using any comp fun, I think. Just wish a certain class wasn't, like, right at the end of the game, even if their potency does make it make sense.

Anyway, recommendations on Assist Options since I did use them liberally once I reached the final dungeon:
Start with Enhanced Home Point since thats kind of invaluable
Increase LXP/EXP as necessary, Gold more around endgame probably
Skip Minigame once you reach a certain point in a plant-y, mountain-y area.
Extend Timers if the final dungeon is too hard to get through
Maybe Level Cap Up for cleaning up the postgame

i like the way this game feels

which mean i shall be dropping it until its full release so i dont feel bad about only getting to play parts at a time

but it IS good and fun and hard so

From a story viewpoint, this game is Amazing, T B H. All of the followers are great even if some are written a bit clumsily, the main story beats are all great and the entire penultimate month is A Ride. From a gameplay sense, the class system is fun and feels like a way to reduce the redundancy of SMT/Persona demons that tend to overlap on what they do a lot.

...anyway, after hitting the final week of the game, I have Some Opinions.
Leveling classes is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ misery. They take entirely too long to get to cap to get later ones, even with the 3-line ones, and the way ultimate jobs work can easily make this even worse, as you can easily level archetypes that party member didn't need and now you have to spend even MORE time on grinding. the only one who escapes this issue is heismay since he needs 13 out of the 39 generics leveled anyway lol

Also, the fact you can't even grind properly with how enemy spawns work make the late-game bosses an absolute mess since they range from "Will just AoE you to death with guaranteed weakness hits" to "What if i hit you 8 times in a row with 5 levels of Atk->Def buff advantage" which conceptually are already awful, but the fact your stats will just not be high enough to withstand any given turn makes them just screech the game to a complete halt.

"But Aakster, this is just what we call a difficulty spike! You'll live!" The game goes from a first boss whose difficulty is based entirely on it having too much health for 3 units to deal with to having it go into the gutter for the rest of the game, peaking with a boss fight where you get a party member who is both strong against it and has a synth that triple downs that bosses' attacks back to the fights mentioned above right afterwards

i don't get it

anyway not recommended because after 55 hours of being decently fun if s bit weirdly easy pulling this is not exactly getting me to care much

update: the solution is old man dilf heismay. also getting a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ proper grinding spot after 60 hours also helps but yeah im not miserable anymore. yes recommended

private lobbies are completely nonfunctional on steamdeck, by the way.
cant copy a code if creating a private lobby, cant type in a code (as in, nothing you type in shows up AND the keyboard has a chance to break as in the game freezes until you forcefully close it using the steam menu)

wonderful. why dont lobbies just have a Show Code function so at least inviting works

why does using a steam invite send you to a public lobby with a player count of "-1/8"
^ fwiw thats me being impatient but also every time the host queued it only sent them and one other player to the actual character select leaving me in the lobby
^^ noting that the host was american, while me and the other player are european, so

also jesus ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ christ clown awards for a "hey maybe have your lobby system work in a way that isnt frustrating for your final demo" sure is !

oh hey a youtuber i watched published a video of this game

guess i should review it but also why put in the effort when this is a 20 euro game thats barely a vn or an rpg or an adventure game or anything of interest. this was in early access for 3 years?

the combat is boring. the monsters look uninteresting. 95% of the events are from "card packs" so they have no relation to the scenario you're going through. the other 5% consist of so little writing it's kind of depressing. as a board game this'd work but as a video game you could find a lot of other text adventures that are way more interesting even with a lack of graphics !

then again they'd make that even more overpriced so what can you do

(hint: it's skipping past this game. again. as said before.)

can i be honest here?
i think the side track mechanic is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and really didnt need to be in V
like i am playing 4B mode specifically because i do not want to randomly have to hit another 2 keys i cant get a comfortable layout for that tank my score just because even though they LOOK like they really should be able to get hit like a double hold note they don't do that. not breaking the combo is not enough these are just kinda awkward

other than that there's that whole always online xigncode 3 thing whatever but eh it's a fine rhythm game and for the 8 + however many dlcs i got for this on sale it's a good buy i suppose
