This is a 0/10 port of a 10/10 videogame.

The gameplay is leaps and bounds better than in Spider-Man Remastered and Miles Morales - if they were really great, then Spider-Man 2's is excellent - and the story is great too. There's not much to say about it that matters for the purpose of this review, I love it, I love Spider-Man and will eat any and every piece of media I get interested on about it and if this was all that mattered then I would tell everyone and their dog and cat to play this game. HOWEVER... The performance.

If you have the latest and greatest hardware, you will experience the 10/10 game in its full glory. The lower you go from this, the nearer you go towards experiencing the 0/10 port alongside. It's really poorly optimized. At the time of this review, game is on version 1.305.0.0, so I have played as the patches were released, and people are still trying to use mods, DLL swaps and other things to make the performance better. Even when playing in a Samsung 980 SSD I still experienced:
1 - The world taking its sweet time to load in front of me;
2 - Cutscenes starting frozen for a few seconds while they loaded whatever in the background with the audio playing normally, and then the animations playing in fast-motion once it finally finished loading to catch up and stay in sync;
3 - Rather frequent stutters, which were fixed by, like how I mentioned earlier, removing two DLL files from the game to disable DirectStorage (a technology made to prevent lag during loading... so badly implemented it actually hurt and caused lag? wow).

I've also experienced the game engine probably hitting a "loaded object limit"? in scenes with highly populated symbiote tendrils, or just the game not liking the tendrils' very dynamic movement in general, because they would oftentimes flicker constantly, alongside generally low framerates when many things were happening on-screen that I had to combat with DLSS, Frame Generation, tweaking settings all the time, and still not finding a sweet spot to at least stay locked to 60 FPS.

Unless you are like me and absolutely love Spider-Man to be willing to power through a mess of a PC port, I do not recommend buying this game for now. I'm sorry.
