For many years I have wanted to relive the experience of when I first played Skyrim. Playing Skyrim with various mods has been a lot of fun, but it was never quite the same as my first play through. Launching and playing Oblivion was surreal. I had forgotten how much I loved this game. I loved creating my custom class, reliving the old-school class/attribute/leveling system, and feeling the weight of my choices.

So much has changed in my own small world in the last 20 years. My life is better now, and so is Oblivion.

Lastly, the game has worked flawlessly out of the box on Linux using Proton experimental. I could not be any happier with my purchase.

My opinion doesn't matter. If you have the money, try it out.

Early Access Review
I played this game for a few hours with a friend. He enjoyed it and I did not. The game felt slow and I struggled to find interesting things to do. I think it will be a good game with time, but I would wait and see.

As of 1/22/2020 I can not recommend purchasing this game for the full price. Even when I picked it up when it was 20% off, I feel the price does not reflect the polish I would expect from Rockstar. I have been waiting to review this game after several bug fixing patches, but every day when I check there are still no updates.

In short, there are numerous bugs and stability issues. The game frequently crashes and I have to replay missions. One of the most annoying bugs effects story cut scenes where I miss out on the dialogue. For example, when hunting the big bear and saving that one guy, I have no idea what happened because the cut scene skipped.

Another really annoying bug happens frequently in missions where I need to chase someone on my horse, and all of a sudden my horse will just run in circles. It does not matter what I press or what direction I try to move, my horse will just go in circles and I fail the mission.

This game will be awesome one day. I would encourage Rockstar to focus their development on fixing the current game before trying to add new content. Optimize the game, fix bugs, and increase stability. Until then, I would recommend waiting to buy this game.

I will be updating this review as I continue to play. I started to play this game back in alpha and it was fun, but it didn't really keep my attention. I decided to give it another try after I saw the first act of the campaign was released. The game feels very different, in a good way.

2/23/20 Update

If you love AARPGs, then you have to check this game out. It's a wonderful game and I am glad I supported it in early access. I am currently playing through the campaign as a melee character and I am loving what the developers have done. While I can't speak to how ranged or magic feels in the game, melee has a wonderful balance of speed while encouraging the player to fully explore each map.

Did you grow up on Diablo and Diablo II, but were disappointed with Diablo III? If so, I believe this game might be the right one for you. I don't think I've ever written a review for a game here on Steam; however, after just playing a short amount of time I felt compelled to do so.

This game has a dark and gritty feel, rewarding combat system, deep levels of customization, etc. I hope this game gets more attention, because it truly deserves it. I'm amazed at what this development team has done with this game. I think this game really underscores what a tragedy it was that Blizzard closed down the North campus. I've been waiting for a game like this for at least a decade.

I'm not one who purchases many games, but I bought this game after watching just a short demo on YouTube. After seeing the game play, and briefly reading about the game on the official web page, I knew this was a game I could gladly support.

The icing on the cake is the ability to mod, lack of DRM, LAN play, and no required internet connection. Everything you hated about D3 is gone in this game, and almost everything you love from D1 and D2 is here. The only thing I miss is my necro, but I hope it will be added later, or through modification.

Again -- Dev team, what an amazing job you have done here. You've won a fan for life. Thank you for all of the hard work you put into making this outstanding game, and thank you to all who risked financial difficulties to further pioneer this genre.
