When the Funcom announcement dropped, it was instantly the C.J. meme from GTA San Andreas, but with a Cantonese accent.

I was banned for disputing their removal of perfectly respectful posts that were talking about how the gaming industry was in total decline (after, of course mentioning the ccp a few times which I received a warning for being "disrespectful" even though Tencent is very proud to be part of the CCP so I don't understand how it's disrespectful).

They converted to full on communism really quick. The more Eric says Tencent isn't in charge, the more it seems he's lying.

I don't know why you got the original Empyrion ban. The perma-ban upgrade is absurd (devs policing user profiles, seriously?). That's some CCP social credit hilarity. Whatever the case, salute. I didn't read everything you posted, but I more or less agree with everything I saw.

He doesn't realize that he literally just stated, by his own reason it's now against the rules to have a dissenting opinion.

Funny since them spying on profiles is against the rules thier "claiming" we broke. I think its time we look into a nice lawsuit against targeted anti slap styled actions.

I literally just caught a perma-ban while being banned until the 17th (today is the 14th) for saying I would craft an argument with ChatGPT and see if they would still argue with it ON MY PROFILE.

I commented on peoples posts and i noticed my comments being deleted, was screen shotting it then i mentioned im just waiting for them to "warn" me but nope 5 deleted messages then 1 "your banned for ever"

I must ask why? I know when I'm unbanned, I'm going back with a really long ChatGPT generated argument and will wait for people to argue with the pure facts it spits out and just point out with a link, "You fools will argue with a damn well if it means defending your precious EGS, becuase <link> you just argued with a damn robot" lol

If you're selling ice cream on the street corner, no one can argue that those buying the ice cream are in charge. If I come up and make a deal to sell all of your ice cream for you and foment the deal with an exclusivity provision that you can only sell your ice cream to me, who is really in charge?

If I don't like your ice cream I'm not going to sell it for you. Walmart does this a lot with physical products. It's not only IP that suffers from this.

But then, we have the problem of funding being mentioned which means Funcom's involvement runs far deeper than Eric let on.

Also if there is any question whether or not Funcom will be involved in the development process it/s answered in that same press release further down.

Regarding investors, again, you're assuming someone with standards. The PR statement mentioned the game being on the Epic Games Store, which is isn't now. But that's owned by Tencent, so that might also have something to do with it.

Oh also remember: Steam takes a large chunk esp if you're running a workshop!

We're assuming that initial wave of income was spent wisely or invested though. I say that because I can't imagine ever making any deals with a predatory publisher like Funcom/Tencent where they turn and claim to now fund my game development. That's just bizarre.

I think I would have gone after standard investors before Funcom (assuming I had exhausted angel investors and loans).

A lot of Funcom's portfolio are games that were successful, stagnated, and then were snagged up by the company. The one thing we do know is that the sales for Empyrion had stagnated and the only thing really keeping it alive was Raven and the rest of team Reforged Eden.

No, I mean they aren't hurting for cash, and never have been. At a minimum, the game's made $10 million. I ran the numbers on the Unity royalties thing and it's genuinely not an issue for literally any developer, so that wouldn't hurt them either. If they're contracting work, then they're saving a ton of money.

If they desperately need cash, then they're truly awful with finances or just frittered it away. Which I can't imagine they'd have done, else Funcom wouldn't have agreed to publish the game. They'd have to prove some kind of financial stability. Otherwise, I'd imagine someone would just buy the game or company outright.

Yeah, considering the game is built on unity and they were talking about taking royalties per install and making that retroactive, I don't know how he can absorb that kind of cost (I'm hoping Unity actually reversed n that decision since firing that ceo).

They must have been hurting for money under these circumstances and I'm using exact phrasing posted on Funcom's site in that they are now providing EGS with funding and are now their publisher which means there is an exclusivity deal which means Funcom now controls the purse strings (basic deduction leads to this conclusion).

Which goes to confirm my thoughts EGS is not even remotely hurting for cash.

I've seen the sentiments about review bombing on every game ever. Happened with Elite: Dangerous back in the day, was told I had too many hours to justify leaving a negative review when they released a Season Pass for their unfinished game.

Not entirely sure, I can comment on other game reviews but not on Empyrion. I'm sure that's part of the ban. It says I'm no longer a member of the community...

LOL Sarah, you've missed the best part though. They ban everyone who disagrees and then points to the people all agreeing in their forums as evidence that the reception of paid DLC is overwhelmingly positive. Taeldyn actually said this in discord and pointed to the discussions on the forums (I laughed so hard and told my buddy in discord with me to ask him (eric) if that was before or after he banned everyone ha ha ha).

Of course that reality is shattered pretty quick by the recent reviews which is what happens when you prevent people from criticizing a product lol.

I just dont understand this mind set that EGS can ban all the "haters" who in fact are loyal players who have thousands of hours been there for the dark times of bad optimization, when they did the size changes and were fixing the CPU limits etc.

i got nearly 3,000 hours ran servers infact did a flood like server which the dlc pretty much hints at.

@Rhettorical: EGS was run and owned by one guy, Eric Leon. You are right I honestly think most of the work these days is done through upwork/odesk.

@Sarah: I was watching that. Notice that their argument is how we all 'owe' EGS positive reviews and money for a new DLC. Seems very... communist.

If your watching the discussions like i do now we have people crying that the loyal players changed their reviews from possitive to negative and calling it review bombing..

I've tried to look into EGS to figure out who the hell they are, given how uncommunicative they've been over the last nine years. What little information I can dig up was not encouraging. My best guess is that most of the work on the game is done via contract, but I can't say that for certain.

I just genuinely want a response from EGS themselves, I would rather not deal with community members who think they know everything and get mad if you hint that you might not be happy with them.

Sure didn't take Eric and the team long to fall in line with the CCP and it's censorship. Of course my comment about the industry being dog water in comparison with every other software industry, that was "disrespectful".

Wasn't steam mods, it was Eric or "a developer" according to the moderation message.

I just want to say, that most if not all that I see on the internet is not remotely close to anything intelligent or well-written, nor politically un-biased. So it's with upmost respect that I tell you that I absolutely enjoy reading all your reviews and I thank you for putting the information up.
