TL;DR; This is a great game to play with friends, and the online co-op experience is awesome. Not a ton of replayability or content once you’ve figured out the game. For experienced rogueliters, this should take a few days at most. Steam deck experience is great.

We were able to get the final ending on Hard within a couple of days, which was a little disappointing. Like another reviewer said, some classes and items are questionable and sustain seems to be necessary after a certain point.

Having win conditions is fine, and having certain builds be better than others is also fine. These are things that are endemic to roguelites in general. However, the issue with Ember Knights is that the win conditions and better builds seem to be painfully limited to a select few variants. This damps down on the game’s replayability. Once you’ve had “the run”, there’s not much point in trying to replicate that experience with other builds and/or characters.

Now, it’s a new game and I haven’t put in a ton of time experimenting. I could be missing something here. Regardless, short of doing mini speed runs, I don’t see a reason to pick this one back up. Hopefully the planned updates give me a reason to.
