Have you ever wanted to know how it feels like to be the lieutenant leading a squad of colonial marines from his APC in Aliens? I did, and for that reason I love Xenopurge.

Xenopurge is a minimalist rogue-lite where you kill hordes of aliens by issuing commands to your squad, a bunch of little dots on a map, through a deliberately clunky interface while they explore abandoned facilities to complete missions for an ominous corporation. Every mission is tense, and completing runs of increasing difficulty is rewarded with cool interactive story sequences.

What really makes the game shine, however, is the impeccable atmosphere (art direction, sound design, music, UI). There is a layer of existential horror to everything you discover in the game, and the screams of your little guys getting shredded really make you regret some of your decisions. This game is a cool experiment that is worth experiencing for yourself.

TR-49 is difficult to describe without sounding unhinged. You act as a librarian exploring the metaphysics of writing as a concept by interacting with a cursed quantum computer in order to save reality.

Mechanically, it's as if the Dewey Decimal System was a game, and a compelling one at that. It feels close to Her Story and Obra Dinn in how you investigate the connections between different books and programs. Thematically, however, it's hard to describe accurately without spoiling the story of the game. It's worth going in blind and trusting that inkle made yet another beautifully written piece of art.

Caves of Qud is a game out of time, proof that imagination, world building, and addictive gameplay are all you need to carry a game to incredible heights even in 2025.

The UI appears daunting at a glance, but it quickly makes sense and, most amazingly, works shockingly well with a controller. I have played this game almost exclusively with the Steam Deck, and it feels perfectly suited for that machine.

I suggest you try Classic mode to learn the ropes, but don't hesitate to switch to Roleplay if you want to experience the story and world with a bit less friction, it's definitely worth it.

Galacticare is an endearing hospital management sim in the vein of Two Point Hospital with hints of Startopia. In my opinion, the humorous tone fits the sci-fi setting better than it did in Two Point Hospital. The voice acting is impeccable, and it makes the main campaign an absolute joy to play through. There is a fantastic variety to the scenarios and maps, and a surprising amount of cosmetic unlockables throughout. Galacticare may not be as in-depth of an hospital management sim as Project Hospital, but it's absolutely a fun experience.

Sometimes all it takes is a two hour stroll in Lego set pieces/puzzles to remind you that there is beauty in this world of ours.

It's a cute mix of Reus (environmental theme) and Kingdom (strategy gameplay), with adorable crabs and lots of cool fishes. Very chill game overall.

There is a reason this game is a best seller on the Steam Deck: it's absolutely incredible, and it's the perfect game to play on-the-go. I went to Japan this year and it was the game I played whenever I had spare time.

Pentiment is the proof that video games are an art form, and it is an incredibly thoughtful look at life in the 16th century.

Reus 2 is an improvement over the previous game in every way. It manages to be both a relaxing and a challenging experience, a balance few games achieve. Every planet is a puzzle, but how difficult that puzzle is can be easily tweaked to have exactly the experience you want for a given session. This game has been my obsession over the last two weeks, and I wholeheartedly recommend it if you believe the premise sounds interesting.

This game might not become the next competitive real time strategy game, but it's worth it for the campaign alone. Despite its slow start, the story really picks up after a few missions, and the cinematics are absolutely incredible. Definitely worth it when the game is on sale if you like single player RTS campaigns or are a Age of Sigmar fan.
