I never really got into Harvest Moon, except Friends of Mineral Town, which I never really liked. I thought it was difficult and tedious. This game then came along, and it seemed like a more simple, but yet more complex, version of Harvest Moon.

Right off the bat, the game shows you the basics, and teaches you to farm. I felt like that was one of the things Harvest Moon did not do very well. Stardew Valley had lots of other features as well, which made it even better.

Long story short, I recommend this game to any steam player. It's worth playing, even if you're not into the genre.

This game.....IS AWESOME! Much better than Minecraft.....

EDIT: This review was posted back in 2015, and since then, the game has changed quite a lot. And I will say that it has changed for the better. The game continues to improve with every update, and its a lot of fun to play with friends. My personal favorite thing to do in the game is building. A lot of the game is super fun, but I'm not gonna start going into details about the game, because there are plenty of other reviews that do that. So long, gay bowser.
