Early Access Review
Rimworld is a stand-out in the burgeoning 'Dwarf-Fortress-like' Colony simulation genre that's been getting more and more attention lately. The Idea is relatively simple... you crashland on some planet in the depths of space, now survive. But it comes off as so much more than just another survival game. Why? Because of the underlying systems that run the game.

Many of the reviews you'll see here on Steam showcase this in the random, sometimes wacky, sometimes crazy, sometimes tear-jerking stories that players tell. These stories are created by all these different systems interacting with one another. And all of this is watched over by a dungeon-master-like AI storyteller. Depending on which you choose, your colony of misfits (and maybe even ne'er-do-wells!) might have to face a heatwave, an invasion by tribal cannibals, pirates intent on kidnapping your colonists...the list goes on. And those are just the OUTSIDE forces you have to contend with. Systems like sanity, comfort, hunger, and inter-personal relationships could plague or bless your colony from the inside!

But is it fun? In this reviewers opinion, yes! Building your colony, watching it grow and prosper, watching it fight off one stroke of bad luck or another, watching it burn and crumble as the last colonist is hauled off by pirates while his best friend bleeds out in the rice-fields....

Rimworld makes the 'colony simulator' simultaneously deep and accessible, a feat in and of itself, all the while giving you nigh endless examples of the drama that such a situation could unfold. And the mod support built into the game, plus a healthy modding community, really does make the possibilities endless.
