I give Possessor(s) a Positive review because it's a big game with a lot of work put into it. The artstyle is lovely, I like the characters and the overall plot of the game. There's some interesting traversal mechanics, and abilities you get.

However, I think as has been said before, it might've worked better as a linear game rather than a metroidvania. I feel like I explore most of an area and then comes across a locked door. Then you get to a point where everywhere you can go has a locked door preventing progress, so you have to tediously search around for somewhere you can actually progress.

The artstyle as I said is lovely, but I kinda wish some animations had just a couple more frames. Going from Idle to Running is pretty jarring without some transition animation.

Also, the combat is a bit clunky in my opinion. There are definitely a lot of mechanics you can use in combat, but they don't feel like they flow together enough to make combat, well, fluid. I also think it's weird to have a dash that you can't use in the air from the start of the game but there are points where you use it to get through a laser wall while jumping so it kind of just 'shifts' you a little bit. Might have benefited from being able to air dash from the beginning, would also make traversal slightly faster and more fun.

The art is absolutely stunning. A lot of time, effort and love has clearly gone into the development of this game. I look forward to the full release!

The demo was fun, there's some feedback I have that I think would sharpen up the gameplay & player experience. The player health and the enemy healthbars are unimmersive, they don't fit the world and aesthetic of the rest of the game.

The camera can wander pretty far from the player in my opinion. And it would be great if the melee attack sent you further forward, I feel very static when attacking the way it currently is.

This is the best demo I've played in years. It's abolutely beautiful, and I have zero problems with the pace or combat. I actually really liked the combat because everything doesn't need to be big skill check dark souls. This is not that kind of game. What I really like is how fluid the animations and animation transitions were.

Gunplay feels mostly nice, ammo economy is really awful though. And when you run out you can't chainsaw large enemies and your melee does terrible damage. It's okay but not for me.

A masochistic game charading as difficulty. Spend all your money on supplies, go for an easy quest - heroes miss half their attacks as enemies dodge and hit you back with all kinds of status effects. Lose your best party members, abandon quest. Start from the ground up with new heroes. Rinse repeat.

It's got good game design elements, lots of juice. The gunplay feels good.

But you take too much damage far too quickly and there are no grace periods. Also the final boss can instakill you before you even get a chance to fight it so that's. yeah.

I recommend it on the fact that there are good gameplay elements here. The art is also really nice, both for the cards and all of the pixel-art animations. The game feels really good too, it's quick and crisp with the right sounds for actions taken.
I also picked it up on sale so for the cheap price, it was worth it.

Reasons why I don't recommend it however:
- Some bugs and game design choices. When completing a mission the game gives you the incorrect amount of oil (currency). If you fail an objective, you get a negative card added to your deck. Removing the card costs 6 oil. Buying new cards and squadmates costs 10+ oil. You get 10-11 from a successful mission so failing 1 objective just sucks. And the negative cards just stack. You can also fail objectives by friendly fire, like pushing an enemy deals damage to structures behind them too.

With some bug fixes and balancing updates this could be a top tier amazing turn-based game, but the game hasn't gotten an update in a year (or any developer replies in steam discussions) so unfortunately it doesn't seem likely.
