I’ve been playing games for like 3 decades now and Crimson Desert honestly feels different in a way most games don’t anymore. It’s kinda like RDR2 and Witcher mixed together, but with way less of that modern open world handholding.

First thing is the open world. It doesn’t constantly drag you around with markers and “go here next” stuff every 2 seconds. You kinda get dropped in and have to figure things out yourself. At first that might throw some people off, but once it clicks, it’s actually really refreshing.

Most open world games now all feel the same. Climb tower, reveal map, chase icons, repeat. This doesn’t really do that. You’re not being shoved from A to B the whole time. You can just go wherever and actually get pulled into the world instead of feeling like you’re clearing chores off a list.

It reminds me a lot of Black Desert Online with that freedom where you just pick a direction and see what happens. But this feels more grounded and not bloated. There’s always something to do, but it never feels like the game is desperate for your attention.

Also this game is a slow burn, and I mean that in a good way. Not something you just rush through in a weekend. It feels more like a journey than a game built around checking objectives off a map. You settle into it, explore, get stronger, learn the systems, and before you know it hours are gone.

The bosses are tough too, but not in a cheap way. A lot of them clearly have weaknesses and you can tell the game wants you to learn, adapt, and use the right abilities instead of just mashing through everything. And if you run into one you’re not ready for yet, that’s fine too. Come back later. You’re always unlocking new abilities and getting stronger, so it never feels like you hit a wall for no reason.

If you’re tired of the same cookie cutter open world formula, this is honestly a nice change of pace. It actually feels like you’re going on an adventure again instead of just clearing a map checklist. The game does have issues which are accurate I won't sugar coat it, but honestly I would love this game to succeed so other developers can give us open worlds just like this.

Music is great, looking forward to what the community makes and the developer has stated that one of the future plans is to allow custom music.

I played this game like a single player RPG, the stories alone are wonderful and i really enjoy the dialog choices that do matter. The free to play restrictions are not a big deal to me as I don't care about gearing fully until endgame and it doesn't hinder my play through. The fact that they are still releasing content and a new expansion this year should say something, as they are confident in giving this game the support it deserves.
