I need this to be co-op somehow now. Awesome stuff: gameplay, music and art wise. A great merging of 40K and FTL.

The most recent update fixes a HUGE amount of issues I had on PS2VR, PCVR, and PC. Good work team. These Devs actually reached out, took feedback and care about their product. While the game may be a short ride (part one of two), if you're a die-hard Aliens and/or a Survival Horror/Shooter fan, you'll love this. There also appear to be some mods popping up over at Nexus and Moddb. What's left on my wish list for this game?

- Multiplayer, CO-OP, Hoard modes.
- It would be cool to have a "Isolation" mode with 1 really tuned up AI Xeno that hunts you near relentlessly.
- Official Mod Support.
- Merge VR and Evolved editions into one launcher if you already own both so you can choose what you want.
- I think the "end boss" encounter + animation/movement could be tuned up. Without spoiling anything I felt like it should have some more options at it's disposal i.e: grabbing, throwing, tossing, ceiling/wall crawling.

Update #2: Latest patch managed to introduce several game breaking bugs with the key binding combinations and the UI forcing you to alt+f4 in the middle of a match. It's beyond frustrating. Also the memory leak bug that crashes you to desktop no matter how much memory you have is back again too.

Code management for this game must be an absolute clown show. QA appears to be nonexistent or needs a total overhaul. Or quite simply EA doesn't give a rat's ass.

Do not buy this game in the current state. For all the progress they've made, they managed to literally undo almost all of it. Additionally hackers have completely taken over multiplayer again as well.

--------
Update #1: Large improvements to anti-cheat (Still not perfect). But honestly the most fun I've had since the original Battlefield games as far as multiplayer is concerned.

Pros:
- Fantastic graphics and audio.
- Huge variety of weapon configurations
- Not impossible to grind and get decent tier loot without Battle pass
- Super immersive combat that outclasses it's the rest.
- Portal/User content

Cons:
- Several glitches and workarounds/exploits
- Hit & Miss moderation/review
- Game instability on PC
- Not a huge amount of level variety

Orig:
PC version is plagued with cheaters again. Get console version and turn cross play off until EA/DICE fund an actual anti-cheat.

Early Access Review
Ridiculously fun early access tribute to The Thing. This has a lot of potential and a lot going for it already.

Updated Review: 01/11/2025
There's been some patching since my original review. However, while the pc version does retain some of the same bugs and softlock issues most of which can be resolved now by reloading your last saved game so you're not completely boned.

The good:
The game nails a lot of the visual feel of the Alien/Aliens universe. There's also a visual continuity between this game and Alien: Isolation, which feels and looks great.

- Graphics
- Atmosphere
- OST/Music
- Level Design

The Bad:
Several glitches and game instability issues.

- Game Breaking bugs (Specifically between loading levels in the elevator and quarantine hubs mostly)
- Soft-locks (NPCs expected to perform an action sometimes do not. (ie: Opening doors, Ladders) Davis sometimes just gets stuck and stops responding. The other synths encountered later in the game can sometimes block airlocks or get stuck in walls tangled with Xenos.
- Game Saves don't always exactly save your current state and act more as 'checkpoints'. As assets, asset locations can reset when reloading saved state.
- Tracking issues
- Enemy and NPC AI can glitch out breaking immersion (or the game itself)
- The weapons really feel under-cooked so even on easy/normal settings the game feels overly challenging.
- Resource management is rough even on easy/normal settings. And this is coming from someone who really enjoys survival horror/survival genre games.
- Enemy spawning patterns are too predictable and happen too often to the point of being a chore to slog through.

Overall:
I think this game can greatly improve it's reputation and overall score if the devs continue to squash bugs as well as finding the right balance between immersion and actual fun game play. There's a lot to like here that can get hampered by undercooked game play and bugs. It does nail the absolute horror and terror of being relentlessly stalked by Xenomoprhs in a hopeless situation though.

With a bit more polishing I think this could be great. If you really love the Alien/Aliens universe this is a must play if you have VR. But if you only have a casual interest then know what you're getting yourself into.

PC Hardware:
Windows 11 (64 bit)
B550M Steel Legend
Nvidia RTX 3080 EVGA Driver Version: 32.0.15.6636
AMD RYZEN 5600 6-Core Processor
RAZER Audio device: Speakers (THX Spatial)
RAM: 65460 Mb
Game installed on :WD BLACK 2TB M2 Drive

VR Hardware:
Headset: Oculus Meta Quest Pro (oculus)
Controller: Oculus Meta Quest Pro (Left Controller) (oculus)
Controller: Oculus Meta Quest Pro (Right Controller) (oculus)

Original Review:
Really wanted to like this but the PC version has horrendous bugs and game breaking issues. Buy the PS5 VR version until the devs fix the PC version.

I've never wanted a refund for something I got for free but here we are. Thank Satan I backed up my original versions. Literally play any other release than this one. What a broken pile of crap.

Bethesda has completely broken this again with the next gen update along with flat Fallout 4 and ALL MODS.

Do not buy until they get their head out of their own butt.

Even downgrading doesn't solve all all the problems.

Will update review when things change.,

Update: 04/20/24
-------------------
- Such a complicated relationship with this game.
- Several glaring bugs and stability issues remain.
- Balance problems have largely been fixed.
- New Items, weapons, vehicles, etc. have been delivered as promised.
- No cure for toxic kick culture as of yet.
- Is it at least fun still? Mostly.

Update: 04/02/24
-------------------
- Devs appear to have left the game in a state where it's wildly unstable, buggy, and unbalanced.
- Constant toxic unresolved player kicking problems.
- Network crashes.
- Match crashes.
- Several bugs present from launch are still in the game.
- New weapons/vehicles don't appear to make any difference in outcome of extraction chances.
- Not sure who this game is targeted for now, but it's just not fun in it's current state.
- Uninteresting Premium weapons/features.

Maybe I'll be back once this is actually fun again.

Update: 02/11/24:
-------------------
Game & Server issues have mostly been resolved:
- Progression Loss: Skills, Rank, Items/Strats.
- Match Making Failures.
- Match disconnect loading/out of sessions.
- Misc in-game issues.

However, there are still some minor bugs in the PC version that are not apparent in the PS5 release. That said, the game is a lot of fun. And the developers have obviously put a ton of passion into this.

For fans of: Starship Troopers, Aliens:Fire Team, Destroy All Humans, Earth Defense Force, Warhammer 40K, Destiny.
-------------------
Orig: Do not buy PC version. Buy PS5 version. Another buggy port mess. Crashes constantly and complete progress loss.
