If you have not played the original:
Much more combat intensive and a lengthier than REmakes 2 and 3. Combat has been fine tuned to allow you to fight against hordes of enemies as opposed to the usual selection of zombies, dogs, and special zombies types. Weapons now have stats which cater more to your play style than just buying or acquiring the newest gun type (for example, do you use your shotgun for strong enemies or crowd control). The game also seems to operate in some form of dynamic difficulty wherein the game gets harder or easier depending on how well you have been fairing.

If you have played the original:
It is still a good game. A lot of iconic combat encounters and locations are there both in form and essence. The refined knife mechanics allows for a more fluid combat than struggling with tank controls and mashing your knife. Speaking of the knife, it now has a durability meter to offset its versatile uses in combat. You can crouch, just in case you're saving ammo or something. They made the characters more into actual people with motives and stories. Overall, you'll get to relive that feeling of fun in RE4 while having its place in the modern age.
