This game is like a drug. It's amazing. It makes you want more and more. And then you lose your house.

Before you read some of the other reviews, I want you to understand one thing. ELEX is the most difficult video game I've ever played. It's not on a level of difficulty I can find reason to defend, because the combat system in the game is extremely buggy, choppy and on the whole broken. I've played many RPGs. I love these kinds of games. There are games like this, such as the Risen series by the same developer, which aren't particularly polished, but are very much playable and enjoyable. ELEX, above all other RPGs I've played, is a missed mark for an AMAZING RPG. I mean, it's got a great story, great lore, an awesome and huge world.. it's fantastic. It has so much ridiculous potential, that the fact the combat is so impossible I have to bug out the system to kill random mobs just hurts deep down. The game derives much of its combat from the souls series. However, it is so much more difficult than a souls game I even can't compare the two. Even on easy difficulty, this game trumps dark souls by a VERY VERY LONG SHOT. It's absolutely, 100 percent broken and it bothers me so much that this is the first game I've written a review for.

A bad game is just a bad game, but this game was supposed to be so good. It has so many good qualities, but the good qualities are ruined by broken combat that apparently was doubled-down on by making it the most difficult combat of any game besides possibly a few indie games which are meant to be nearly impossible.
