Very good soulslike / roguelike combo. Simple & to the point, with enough items, enemies, bosses and lore to make things interesting. Easy to pick up, tough to master.

I've been resisting this title for years, due to the topdown tank-shooter look of the graphics. But after learning how awesome rogue-like games can be (thanks to Hades), and it popped up as a weekend sale, I bit, and bought the base game. Just a few hours after that, I realized this was a winner, and bought the expansions.

Amazing, addicting, challenging yet fair, with a twisted, simplified story that doesn't take itself too seriously,.... DEFINITELY worth getting when on sale. If you're on the fence, get it during a sale and you won't regret it! Easily worth buying at full price. I'm going to be sinking hundreds of hours into this, and highly anticipate the upcoming expansion.

Perfect combination of RE4 and the original RE2.

Everything I loved from the original - all the tense, near-to-death zombie-avoiding, Tyrant-dodging, puzzle-solving, plus much better control, new graphics, new mechanics, bonus modes, and more. It manages to combine the modern action-focused over-the-shoulder perspective from RE4 with the atmospheric, low-on-supplies inventory management elements of survival horror.

As a minor con, I wish the inventory management interface was a bit more intuitive and less click-heavy (might not be an issue for a controller or on a console. I'm playing this on a PC with a mouse and keyboard). Even so, this is a really minor complaint.

A+, will be playing it over and over, maybe not as obsessively as I did with the original RE4, but after 1 play through as Leon, I'm ready to jump back in as Claire.

Overall, awesome FPS. Probably a little overrated, but nevertheless, it's alot of fun.

That said, there's a few downsides:

- after the first section or two, the enviromental clues that there's going to be an ambush or conflict become predictable, and thus, begins to feel repetative.
- similarly, the AI is pretty good, though not great, and also predictable, which adds to repetativeness.
- plot: (spoiler!) not really very logical, kind of a cop-out, the whole "multi-verse / time travel / you were the villian the whole time" has been beat to death in countless films and a number of other games. It always feels like lazy writing, and has bascially become a cliche. They imagined up this insane hardcore awesome world, and used the multiverse idea to link it to earlier entries in the series --- on it's own, OK, but its the only option, its flimsy. Likewise, the cause & effect nature of time travel was kinda tacked on at the end to explain the many questions you'll have... but I was left unsatisfied. I've already seen this type of explaination, I wanted something unique, interesting, or at least more thoroughly thought out.
