While you don't really want to go over level 50, there isn't any many downsides to it, it may be a little bit harder or a lot harder the higher you go. It also heavily depends on your playstyle, you might want to just breeze through the game without worry but there are some quests I think are worth doing like "Uncle Teddy" to get the Lady Fist which will help you breeze through bosses and enemies.
