There's no real way to explain this game to someone and do it's addictive, easy to learn and hard to master, brilliance justice without showing them actual gameplay.

People might be put off by the fact they don't know/like poker, or that it seems too simplistic (and some might assume the opposite extreme) to really be engaging for long - but once you experience the moment-to-moment gameplay yourself, it becomes clear that this game is an absolute time-vacuum. You don't need to know or enjoy poker at all to be completely sucked in. At most, being familiar with poker hands before playing will save you all 5 minutes it takes to learn what you need to know.

A surprisingly solid baseball sim, in the guise of a cute arcade game. Given that there's no competition for this niche on PC right now, nor has there been for a good few years, this game feels like it could have got away with being much, much worse.

I, though, am glad that the extra effort went into making it, not just a decent baseball game on PC, but a great game in general.

( 2019 UPDATE: This game is still the best ARPG on the market, in terms of content updates, support and business model. Whether or not you prefer the theme/asthetics of Grim Dawn, Diablo 3, Torchlight 2, Van Helsing, etc. POE still merits consideration and being given a good, solid try. )

Still one of the best examples of Free To Play to this day.

Great ARPGs have this strange quality that keeps you clicking in hopes of getting better gear, with which to further your clicking potential. The cycle continues. With constant and generous content updates and roll-outs, POE has this in no small amount.

I imagine, however, that this kind of game is not for everyone. Not everyone will be willing to play through the 4-act storyline (at the current time of this review) 3 times on 3 progressively challenging difficulties, to access the 'end-game' content. Further, not everyone will be willing to comb through wikis and forums to make sense of the game's, admittedly quite opaque systems and mechanics. Not everyone enjoys comparing endless (randomized) stats between items, to make sure that they've got a good 'roll' on the one that they've just aqcuired.

But, for those that aren't put off by any of that, or even enjoy the prospect of it, Path Of Exile really is one of the greatest ARPGs available now.
